Butch Davis

2 thoughts on Davis:

1) The UNC job would be right up his alley. He's a turn-around specialist. He rehabbed Miami's program and he can do the same at UNC.

2) I'd NEVER want Davis at Bama. He'd have a few good years at Bama then bolt, like he did at Miami and like a certain other coach did to Bama a few years ago. I'd rather have a coach that will stick aorund for along time than one that will rebuild and bolt.

I think that another coaching change would set Alabama back another 4 to 5 seasons . This years team is very young and next year or maybe this year they will show that they can win the big game. We as fans need to have more faith in this team and then see what will happen.. ROLL TIDE!!!!!!!!!

If you will remember Gottfried got a nice, new, big contract putting his compensation over Shula's. It was in quite a few newspapers and all over the internet, that Alabama's basketball coach made more than the football coach. You heard garbage about Alabama now being a "basketball school." You can imagine the embarrassment for a supposedly "football school", so that situation was rectified. The 10 win season was a good excuse and the long-term contract was supposed to help out with recruiting showing stability after grumblings after last year's end of the season collapse. Those are the reasons that the raise was given at that time, it was all for appearances.

Tell Texas, LSU, AND Florida that being respected for basketball is "garbage" I don't believe CMG would appreciate that remark and frankly I don't either. It's very rewarding to have good programs in both sports. CMG and his staff, not to mention the players deserve more respect than that.

Times have really changed in the past 10 years. Coaches are only as good as their last couple of games. The only passes are awarded to those have won a National Championship or led the team to that game recently. It is a crazy system and they are constantly under immense pressure to win or else.

The idea of CMS being forced out is ridiculous. He is doing just what he was hired to do - bring stability and sanity to a program that was spinning out of control. Kudos to him for staying the course and continuing to build a great future for the university. The only way he would be in any jeopardy would be because of a major setback of scandalous proportions. That is not going to happen. Barring a major meltdown, CMS is firmly in place for at least two or three more years. By then, everyone will have a clear picture. We all need to support him and this team until we are playing on a level field with the Auburn's, Florida's, and Tennessee's of the world.

FWIW, the Columbia, SC radio station 560 AM (WVOC) reported today that UNC's top candidate was David Cutcliffe.

I seriously doubt there will be a head coaching change at UA, nor do I support that idea.

Butch Davis did say he was waiting to see what happens at Alabama. I look at it as agent talk to get more leverage in the negotiatons with NC where he is being offered 2M or more for a long term contract.
Yeah,I take no stock in this "rumor" esp. since no real info says CMS is on the hot seat at the end of this season!

I fail to see why even the thought of a coaching change should be considered for BAMA any time soon.

Butch Davis? Are you kidding me people? Think fRan part duex.

Losses hurt, but lets give it another couple of seasons. Some of what I am seeing shows me there might be a serious run at #13 NC in that time.

I think down the road Nick Saban failing at Miami and Shula failing at Alabama, would bring on Nick Saban as the head coach. That would be a more likely scenario. Although Nick Saban wasn't very satisfied with the college game because he knows how difficult it is to win the National Title. Apparently some Bama fans have yet to figure this out. Shula is going nowhere.

Why would you want a coach that says he is waiting to see what happens at another program when that program has not even hinted they are going to be looking for a new coach.
To me that is just not classy at all.

That would be a horrible mistake for UNC. Cutcliffe is too old, too feeble and too poor at recruiting to rebuild a program in a BCS conference.

Agreed.

I don't know if Cutcliffe is to feeble, to old to build a program...we are talking UNC right? 6-7 wins is rebuilt for them.

Mysele, I think Butch made the same mistake Steve Spurrier made. they both were good college coaches but let their ego get the best of them. I can't blame either though sometimes you just got to know if it would work or not. However both of them did go to some pretty bad teams at teh time.

Probably will not happen. But it does have some kind of credibility. It was reported on JOX this morning and read word for word. Said he would wait to see what happened with Mike Shula and Alabama before making any coaching decision. Him and Mal are friends are they not. Not feeding the frenzie but it was reported. If Shula loses to Croom look for something to happen period. As it should. 1-11 agains fl. barn and tenn. Cannt take that much longer.

2-10 ... he did beat fla and tenn last year. but I totaly agree, those types of numbers cannot go on much longer

I totally want to ***** slap some of you. CMS is doing exactly what 99% of you wanted on this board... bring back stability. It seems the only thing thats not stable are you that are calling for his head. He needs time to build it back up and all of this is tearing it down as we speak. This does volumes for recruiting. This does volumes for all of the classy Alabama fans that understand what it takes to "Be Back". This is an endurance run, not a sprint. Too much microwave and not enough oven... instant grits but no sausage and eggs. Come on people, think about this. An individual can sit and evaluate a problem and come up with a solution that sound.... A group can turn a problem into full blown chaos. Don't be in a witch hunt over this. Be patient support your University by putting faith in them. This crap is why alot of you can't let go of Fran. The only way I could care about that sorry excuse of a person is if we play them in a bowl game at some time. We have the best man for the job, he is crimson thru and thru and he knows his role. All I got to say is Know your roll.
