My bad BamaBlake thanks for the correction but still 20% is not good at all. There are not many coaches out there who couldnt coach to a 20% rate at Bama. Something needs to change period. Anyone who doesnt think so is crazy and just wanting more of the same heart ache. Not saying coach change but philosophy or something has to give.

Maybe all Bama needs is a few new assistant coaches. Kines is the best DC in the business. However, Radar is another story.

If Shula can't beat LSU or Auburn you can count on it having a major effect on recruiting this year, if nothing else it sets up a do or die year in 07 in which Shula will have to beat SOMEBODY besides the cupcakes provided to him by Moore.

Be a good idea to learn how to spell a man's name before passing judgement on him. It would also be a good idea to let him actually be the OC before passing judgement on his capabilities as an OC.

Tell Texas, LSU, AND Florida that being respected for basketball is "garbage" I don't believe CMG would appreciate that remark and frankly I don't either. It's very rewarding to have good programs in both sports. CMG and his staff, not to mention the players deserve more respect than that.

It wasn't intended as an insult to the basketball program. Quite frankly Alabama has always been known as a football school and basketball has been a VERY distant second. The garbage I was referring to was opponents claiming that the fact that the basketball coach was paid more than the football coach meant Alabama was more concerned with (and more successful with) basketball now, and no longer a football first school. I think Gottfried and every basketball player to ever play at Alabama realizes that football comes first here. Geez, they award the Iron Bowl trophy at a basketball game right? I doubt the basketball players are offended.

Shula is not going anywhere. The people who matter(Mal Moore), etc. are pleased that he has accomplished what he was supposed to accomplish so far in the process. He won 10 games last year and those people I am referring to did not expect that. Remember what he was brought here to do:

1. Establish stability, and see Alabama through a 5 to 6 year period of troubled times from the NCAA mess. We are just now getting near the end of the effects.

2. Improve recruiting so that we can compete. That has been done and when the last 2 classes he has signed are upper classman we will be on equal footing.

3. Keep us out of trouble with the NCAA. Like it or not this is the most important thing our coach has to do right now, and the powers that be know Shula will do just that.

4. Finally, learn on the job. They knew he was going to struggle in certain areas, and they are patient with him. They needed someone loyal and they are being loyal to him.

Mike Shula is doing what he was brought here to do and soon that will include winning championships. He may need to make some changes in philosophy and staff to do that and I am confident he will make those changes if he thinks he needs to. But you know it does not matter what any of us think, because the people who matter at the University expect Mike Shula to be around a long time. In fact they would not have given him a pay raise last year and extended his contract if they did not believe just that.

Anyone else want to line up and take a shot at Alabama?

Touchdown Club.

As an assistant with the Dallas Cowboys, Davis said, he used to grease the palms of players who made plays.

"I'd come in and I'd have a stack of maybe a hundred $5 bills," Davis said, setting up the punch line. "And I think the only place
where they really still do that is maybe Alabama."

Butch Davis had his chance to be the coach at Alabama.

Coach Shula's our coach for now and for the next few years. All this program needs is a good fundamental OL coach, better execution (maybe fewer plays, more reps on the offensive playbook), Maturity which will be taken care of over the next 2 years, and just a bit more aggressive playcalling. If Mike Shula can get those done, he'll be at Bama till the cows come home! If not we'll be searching in a year or two!

the only other board i've ever really looked at is texags.com because it's so funny. if you look at the job franchione is doing over there i think it's easy to make a case for them to move on to a new coach. yet, many people on that board want to give fran more time and the benefit of the doubt and such.

there must be a large population that just doens't think mediocre coaches exist.

Bill Curry's last year he had a great record. Was he a good coach? Even mediocre?

Chapel Hills News reporting that Davis is leading choice (out of five--Cutcliffe not among them) and that Davis "supposedly told Carolina he wanted to see whether the head coach's job at the University of Alabama would open before he would commit to becoming the Tar Heels' coach."

Mike Shula is an absolute perfect fit at Alabama because:

1. He gets Alabama, the tradition, the expectations, love of school, the whole enchilada.

2. He is a rare type who could be a national celebrity and totally full of himself, but he is humble, direct, courteous and perfers being with his family to chasing the limelight.

3. He is a great judge of talent and a recruiting machine. Mike has been around football for about 38 of his 42 years on the planet and 34 have been in the NFL...4 years at Bama. The man appreciates college football, but knows the pro game...his recruits are NFL prototypes. It won't take much longer before blue chippers start noticing that Mike Shula recruits ultimately end up playing on Sundays.

4. The man is honest to the core and doesn't cheat. Try carrying around the last name of the winningest coach in NFL history....Mike has too much respect for his Dad to do anything that would bring dishonor on the family name.

5. The NFL game is all about personnel and match-ups. Hall of fame coach Bill Parcells just got embarrassed on Monday night football because he didn't have the guys to match up with NYC because of a decade of Jerry Jones draft picks. The fans worry about play calling, Mike Shula worries about getting an offensive right tackle and guard.

6. The man is extremely loyal to his staff. Anybody notice that Don Shula's NFL staff's weren't exactly revolving doors? Don Shula's staffs were like an extension of his family. Mike Shula grew up seeing this. Its the way he feels it should be.

7. Mike Shula is young, can get Bama back on top, without cutting corners, doing anything dishonest or embarrasing the university. Once he gets it back, we all know the program will attract top the type of top caliber talent that will keep it there indefinately.

Give the man a chance. He's only trying to do what he knows will work in the long term and what is best for the program. RTR.

Forget about Butch Davis. We still have four games to play. If we do happen to win at least 3 of those, Shula will definitely remain at Alabama for a long time to come.

My guess is he and Bama will win the FIU, MSU, and Barn games. LSU is still a little out of Bama's reach, but I wouldn't say they are too far out or reach to upset.

Well if we want to keep throwing rumors out there lets keep it going how about the one I heard today about Jimbo Fisher coming to Bama after the season is over!!! What im trying to say is guys lets stop talking about rumors and face the facts Coach isnt going anywhere until something is said lets stay off the coach subject.
