Classic Rock thread

I was born in the Late 70's and grew up in the 80's and 90's but 'Classic Rock' is still my favorite genre.

I consider that 60s and 70s Rock.

My favorite 3 Bands are still to this day The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Led Zeppelin, and Pink Floyd.

Coincidentally my 3 favorite Guitarists are Hendrix, Page, and Gilmour.

Thanks to my Dad for getting me into that music at a young age with Records and 8-Tracks.

I hear stories like yours all the time about how a parent passed down their music to the next generation. I’m so thankful that I lived through all the glory years of classic rock. With my music collection I could literally start a classic rock radio station😎

If you’re a big Pink Floyd fan, you might want to check out Brit Floyd if they play near where you live. They are pretty much note for note to the original music.
I’ve seen ELO live a couple of times and I’m a big Jeff Lynne fan.

Yes, Pink Floyd is another progressive rock band that did some neat things in their music (like ELO)… incorporating sounds and voices along with synthesizers.

65 years ago today, Feb 3 1959, Buddy Holly was killed in a plane crash outside of Clear Lake, Iowa, along with Richie Valens and The Big Bopper.
Guitarist Tommy Allsup and Waylon Jennings were supposed to be onboard but changed theit plans.

That`s because a lot of it was produced during that time. Do Wop was a little earlier, but was really the early classic rock n` roll. So many groups. Very late 50`s, very early 60`s. Google " Smoky Places " by the Corsairs, " Blue Moon " by the Marcels for good examples.

I love Classic Rock. And it's difficult to find new music that has that Classic Rock sound. Two I like are Dirty Honey and Jayler. Dirty Honey has a Led Zeppelin sound. Their EP is best. Jayler is new, and has a late 70s sound.

My main Music playlist currently has 1,548 songs. About 80% is Classic Rock.

One of the big influences that led to some of the greats in the classic rock era.

Rock and Roll was dead by the time you were born. Thanks to the Seattle guys for reviving it. All that from the mid-late 70s to late 80s was sad, SRV being among the few bright spots.

I think that not only was Stairway to Heaven not the best Zepplin song, it wasn't even the best song on their fourth album.

Grew up with Motown, The Four Seasons, Righteous Brothers, Jay and the Americans, The Big O ( Roy Orbison ), The Beatles, Aretha, etc., etc. Stuff you could dance to, lyrics you could understand and was often romantic. Did like some of the 80`s, but that`s where it pretty much ended for me.

Story of my life - remember those records of my older brothers.
Music has changed. Some adapted, some didn’t, and some like me just know what I like and occasionally hear something that I think is good. Just not often.
I do like Billy Joel’s new song.

ETA - I think you could make an argument that Classic Rock ended in March 1973. That's when Houses of the Holy and Dark Side of the Moon were released.

No, it gets cool later
