Sly, it's true Jimmy Johns isn't playing quarterback at Alabama . . . he's playing for a national championship. Fat chance of doing that at State.
pwned, hah hah hah!Johns said. "I'm in Alabama. We're 9-0 right now. We're No. 3 in the nation. We're trying to play for a national championship right now. All that is irrelevant."
Nah, it'll be more fun whipping his tail every year, reminding him that the better coach got the job. His racist and bitter statements are becoming the norm and are what he will be remembered by, while Coach Shula will be remembered for his class...POWERLINEMAN42 said:I cant wait for the day he is fired. Hope he never gets a high profile job.
"We just had a tough, tough football game with Alabama,'' Croom said. "You Alabama fans, don't take this personal. They're not a great football team, but they know how to win. That's what Alabama has always been about - knowing how to win. I'm hoping people will say the same thing about Mississippi State one day.
"We've played three or four teams that are better (than Alabama) from a talent standpoint, but they know how to get it done,'' said Croom, one of the three finalists for the Alabama job three years ago along with Shula and former Tider Richard Williamson.
"The bottom line is, we played the best game we've played all year and it wasn't enough. Our fans don't want to hear it, but we're a much better football team now than we were last year. Never at any time last year were we a football team.''
"Good comments"? Backhanded compliments at best!Tennessee said:In his defense, he gave Bama props as well...just wanted to give his good comments equal time![]()
Jesse will no doubt blame Alabama for sly getting fired when it happens.CapitalTider said:This is what has been the most surprising to me, his apparent utter lack of professionalism (great acceptance speeches notwithstanding). I would have thought that one of Coach Bryant's players, with a minister for a father, and years of coaching experience would not act in this manner. I am so glad we did not hire him. As far as when MSU fires him, they can expect a bigger black eye from the press than we got for not hiring him. Based on his behavior after not getting the Alabama job, I imagine there will be multiple lawsuits for wrongful termination and Jesse Jackson will be down in MS leading the protests for the racially motivated firing of Coach Croom, despite his 8 wins over 4 seasons and losses to Maine and other Div. I-AA powerhouses.
I think your looking at each comment as a seperate statement being unrelated to the others. But when I look at him say that we lack class, and then he says we aren't a great team....it causes one to view the statement as more negative than positive. The comment about the 14$ mil contract also hints at negative undertones in his statements. No one but CSC can truly know what he intended, but it seems that everything he said had at least some sort of negativity to it, so I don't think he deserves the benefit of the doubt on that statement.Tennessee said:Maybe y'all didn't take it that way, but IMO, it's a much greater compliment to be a less talented team who wins than a more talented team who wins...That speaks towards coaching and heart...Maybe I'm the only one that saw it that way
