All true. I think where this is different is the fact that Musk is not a politician and is doing things we've never seen done. His supporters think this difference is why his program will work. His detractors think this is why he is destined to become a Bond villain (complete with evil lair carved out of the side of a volcano...which is about the worst location I can think of for such a thing. But I digress.)
This difference is why I remain hopeful that this will work, but I am prepared for the eventuality that it could fail. The thing is, we knew that fixing this economy and lowering the debt was going to be painful, but I think a lot of people assumed that the pain would be like taking a booster shot rather than knee surgery plus PT on top of that. What it comes down to is this: are Americans ready to embrace the reality of what needs to happen or will they turn tail and run to the voting booth because it's just too much? Ultimately, the final decision on whether or not DOGE is successful will be the voters. (That's not necessarily a good thing either. Next time you see some idiot trying to push his way through a door that is clearly marked "pull", remind yourself that this person probably votes.)
