ESPN 30 for 30

Funniest line..."we're not big, but we're slow"

Also remember SMU went 41-5-1 from '81-'84 with one of their losses being to Alabama in the '83 Sun Bowl.

"SMU, the nation's winningest team over the last three seasons with a 31-2-1 record before Saturday's debacle, finished 10-2. The Mustangs, whose two setbacks in that three-year stretch were by two and three points to Texas, had their claim that they should have been in a major bowl thoroughly squashed before a record Sun Bowl crowd of 41,412 which braved wind gusts of up to 35 mph and temperatures in the 20s."

If I were an Auburn fan, the SMU show would be chilling. With all the rumors and investigations underway, I'd be worried sick.

The SMU broadcast pointed out that once boosters start paying players, they can't stop without upsetting the players. And if a player is upset, he's liable to talk. IF Auburn has been running a PFP scheme, it'll come to light.

That part really made me think of the pat dye years and what Tater Tot inherited.

The best line of the program was "When a booster starts paying a player, he doesn't own the player. The player owns him."

I just hate the fact that they responded this season like they have. Us losing a couple of games is within reason, but all of this AU success has almost taken me to the Brink!!!!!!

I did not watch the whole thing, but most of it.

Two observations:

1. Everyone interviewed seemed completely unapologetic. There were lots of knowing smiles and no voiced regrets.
2. Like today no one believed that the NCAA would ever do it. They may never do it again, but we can never know for sure.

If i were a ALL-BURN FAN what a hell of a IFFFFF. The SMU thing watching it would make me think, somewhere in the back of my mind, could this be happening at my school?. I would have a deep down sickness in my stomach. I would be worried to death (no pun intended)

I watched this tonight. Very well done documentary. I especially liked the part where Craig James said Coach Bryant tried to land him through his girlfriend. Contrast that with what was going on all across the old SWC......wow. What went on at SMU sounds eerily like what is currently going on at the barn. Here's to hoping the NCAA decides to whip out the death penalty one more time. AU's arrogance by continuing to play Cam no matter what, and Cam's arrogance (not to mention Trooper, Luper, and others) parallel that of SMU right smack in the middle of their heyday of cheating. Time will tell if the NCAA has the cajones to bring real justice to the barn.

Would be great to see a similar documentary in a few years about the rise and fall of AU football. What a cast that would be- Brando, Finebaum, Sarbinsky, Thayer Evens, Joe Schad, Lowder, Raines, McGregor, Trooper, Luper, Dye, etc. Might even get a special appearance from Ramsey and Blakeney from the "keep it down home cuz" days.
