A couple of thoughts here:
1) For all the hub-bub now, this literally will boil down to nothing. For all the "I'm mad at both parties" or my personal favorite "X is to blame," it won't make any difference. What's that you say? You believe the myth that the Republicans shut down the government in 1995 and 1996 and the public made them pay? Really? Interesting. The Republicans GAINED two Senate seats in the 1996 mid-term elections, so I guess the public showed them, right? Yeah, they lost a few House seats, but that's going to happen when you so wipe out the party in the previous election that you take seats Republicans normally would not have a chance to win. The same thing happened for the Democrats in 2010, when they had gained so much in 2006 and 2008 that losses were inevitable.
Oh Clinton beat Dole? Like you think he wouldn't have beaten Dole without the shutdown? Really? Issue that never once came up in 1996 election? The government shutdowns. So for all the myth-making you're hearing from the media, it wasn't true, it isn't true, and it won't be true.
If you're a partisan thinking this is helping you, you're as wrong as wrong can be.
2) If Obamacare was so damned good, they wouldn't have voted it in in 2010 and waited four years to start it with all those exceptions for "our donors" if it was as great as they keep telling us. The wait was intentional - make doggone sure Obama gets re-elected and they don't find out until it's too late. This is COMMON SENSE, folks and I don't care your ideology. If it gave all that is promised, it would already be overflowing our lives with milk and honey.
3) Any of you still naive enough to think Obama actually cares about the little guy - he doesn't. He doesn't know you, he doesn't care if you have a job, he doesn't honestly care if you die. Get that old "Democrats care for the common man" garbage out of your skulls. A couple of years ago Barry came here to Dallas for a fundraiser. He did not go into the ghetto, the soup kitchen, or dilapidated military housing at Carswell - he went into the Sheraton Hilton and walked out with ten million bucks and closed off the roads around the hotel, sending those of us with gas guzzlers on longer trips home despite his professed concern about "the environment." The man is just like other politicians - a two-bit phony who thinks he got elected dictator.
4) The man is simply not a leader at all. THIS is why you don't elect SENATORS to the Presidency. Say what you want about Carter, Reagan, Clinton, or the last Bush - they were all governors and knew that whining petulantly to the media was not the way an executive would act. That's because they all had executive experience and Urkel Jr doesn't.
5) Now some of you may have been misled by the usual banner and flag stuff - about how unpopular Congress is, right? Well guess what? Most people LIKE their Congresscritter. At least 85% of them will get re-elected if they run. For all the "only nine percent approve," the fact is that if you don't live in John Boehner or Nancy Pelosi's district, it doesn't matter if you like them or not. You have no say in them keeping their job.
As far as the shutdown - if grown people elected to solve this problem cannot do so, they should all resign for incompetence (including the head honcho) and let someone have the job who CAN do so.
