Question: How Many DBs Do We Take?

I wasn't asking if we take 5 so to speak. I was just listing the guys I know of that are DB prospects that Bama is high on (or player is already committed). Add those 6 or 7 (Jones/Thomas) to what we have... That's a good many members of the secondary.
True , but I believe 2 of the current DB's will not be back once August rolls around if Bama finishes up as strongly as things are looking .

Dre and who else?

There are rumors floating aorund that one may be transferring. That may be what he is referring to. See it now for about 2 months and even one of the pay sites hinted at it I think a while back. Again just rumors and nothing unexpected at this point, when players want to see more playing time and leave to find it elsewhere. Again just a rumor of what I am referring to.

Add a CB and a safety .

Exactly.

And per site policy, no use speculating on names or discussing at length, but those who play close attention ought to be able to pick it out with relative ease. Most kids don't sign with 'Bama to ride the bench, and when they do with no real playing time in sight, well...

Regarding Dixon the rumor is that UA may have backed off. That Dixon is still very much unterested in UA and that they are his top choice. The concern is with his grades. It appears he may not be graduating in Dec, which means he would not be able to attend UA in the spring. I know in the past it does not seem like Saban wants JUCOs who can not come in the spring. So I guess we will see.

I'm not sure I agree with passing on Harris. We signed Menzie but we still had to play Milliner as a true freshman and I'm not sure he was ready. He got burnt a few times in the '10 season (late in LSU game comes to mind).

I just don't really understand what goes on in the spring that makes JUCO's who don't graduate in december unsignable. I mean if they are a good player they are a good player no matter when they graduate right? It's not like we will be replacing Dixon with someone who will be here in the spring. Menzie was not on campus for spring practice in 2010 and he played pretty well that season considering the injury.

The biggest reason you pass on JUCOs who aren't EE's is because they are expected to be on the field immediately. With a Freshman typically you aren't putting them out there into the fire, unless you have attrition (think us in 2007) or lose a ton of upperclassmen (secondary in 2008). Plus you only have two years with a juco, so you need them to be there early to get them into a system and ready to go. With a freshman, you get at least 3 years in the system so you can take your time with them.

only reason menzie was at top form was an injury before the season. not sure we would have been much better off starting fulton AND milliner in the backfield as true freshmen.

The precedent has been set before by Saban. In 2010 Mike Harris didn't graduate in December so we passed.
I'm glad y'all did pass on Mike Harris. He really played well for us, was always in the right spots, hard worker, and great tackler.

I thought Dixon was an EE, well atleast that's what I've been hearing. Supposed to announce on December 21st.

He was suppose to be, but the rumor is grades may be an issue now. He is also visiting Miami this weekend coming up for an OV. If he does not end up at UA it looks like Miami will get him. Also he was suppose to visit FSU this past weekend but I saw posted Wednesday on a FSU rivals board that he cancelled his visit, so not sure if he actually made the trip.

He made it for his visit this past weekend. I think he is EE though.

@RealPokeChop, I can't quote on this board because it freezes my computer, but my point is I think we might have been better off with another JUCO instead of throwing Milliner in there as a freshman. As in starting both Menzie and Harris. Menzie was not an early enrollee and he played great for us, so I do not really understand why we turn away players who are not early enrollees.

I believe what lead to the Menzie signing was either Belue failing to qualify in 2010 or Kareem Jackson leaving early for the draft. In other words, we did not plan to sign Menzie but circumstances lead to us needing another CB.

I don't know, but I hope if we turn Dixon away that we will pick up Deon Bush. A reliable guy says we could get him if we wanted him and now that it looks like we won't get Dixon that may open the door for Bush.

I believe his name is Deon Belue, not Bush.
