Hurricane Irma......

The newest track (5:00 eastern)

If that holds up, the brunt of it will hit the everglades. That would be a best case scenario given the options.

Don't like that newest track one bit! Good friend of mine just retired to SC on a barrier island-she and her husband headed out this morning. Looks north AL could get hit as well.

We'll at least get a bunch of rain. Since I have to replace the floor in my west end because of a clogged drain, at least it's cleared and ready...

I can't remember for certain whether they were officially TS's by the time they got to B'ham, but Rita and Opal come to mind as possibilities. I know the gust were pretty high, just not sure about the sustained winds.

I remember sitting in school while Frederic was passing.

I had food poisoning the same day Opal came through and was spaced out on phenergan and lomotil. I'd wake up every now and then thinking something was happening. I spent the night in a trailer so I was nervous, I guess. Hadn't been married too long and had a little one.

Rita brought down a couple of tall pine across the road and a large limb out of our pecan tree.

Ivan comes to mind, but I don't remember much for some reason. Probably because I had school 5 days a week and was working full time.

Bill Murray at the AlabamaWX website clarified.

While there are other storms that would have warranted it, this is apparently a pretty unique situation.
