If the Cincinnati Bengals 'wake up,' could AJ McCarron be their quarterback in 2016?

No, IMO, he is not a starting NFL QB.
It is your opinion but if you based your opinion off of last night's game I think you did not watch the game. I am of the opinion he will be a good solid NFL starter one day but I know the jury is still out until he gets the gig. But playing in the conditions he played in, on the road against the #1 defense in the league he could not have played much better (obviously not counting his last snap).

And you have concluded plenty of evidence of why he isn't, thanks. Ive watched all his snaps since Dalton went down and I think he's farther along than he should be. He still is young you know, and better than a good amount of starters elsewhere.

Seriously, if Ryan Tannehill can be an NFL QB, I don't see why AJ couldn't. He's got the tools. He just needs to develop more and get experience. I think he can be a fine QB in the league.
I'm a diehard phins fan and I firmly believe AJ is already better than T hill. But the phins O line is pretty dang trash so it's hard to tell

This. That was a GREAT throw by AJ that should have been a TD.

AJ is responsible for the fumble at the end, but the game never should have come down to that. Besides the would-be TD mentioned here, the play-calling got way too conservative as others mentioned. Up 14-0, you go for the jugular. You had exactly what you wanted - young QB playing with the lead and some confidence, running game working fairly well - that's the time to step on their necks. Just more evidence as to why I've never been overly impressed with Marvin Lewis in general.
And a very makable field goal earlier.

Hearing rumbles that AJ might be making a move the the Vikings after Bridgewater's knee exploded in practice yesterday. That would be a solid pick up for them.
Don't know much about the Vikings...how would AJ fit their offense compared to Bridgewater?

Been hearing this too. I think alot of people are seeing potential in him, but he has a ton of value to the Bengals since Dalton can't seem to stay healthy. I don't know how much the Vikings would be willing to give up if they are expecting TB to recover for next year.

That to me is a big gamble. Bridgewater may never be the same again according to the Dr. on ESPN. If they think their window is open now, they need to make a move. They could always trade AJ if Teddy does come back as good as before.

Minnesota's offense is run-heavy, but they do very little (if anything) designed to have the QB carry the ball on a designed run. Their philosophy seems to be to treat Bridgewater like any other pocket QB. I don't think there's a part of their offense that would give AJ any more problems than most other NFL offenses. I hope Teddy makes a full recovery and get back to 100%. Seems like a good guy, even if he does play for a Packers rival.

Vikings would be a better situation for AJ than the bengals. The only question would be what does he have to do to win the full time starter role for atleast next year. Personally I think 10 wins with a good showing against Rodgers, cam, luck, and Eli would probably do it. But overall it's a better situation mostly due to the fact he wouldn't be behind a franchise tagged qb and in the AFC.

Teddy may or may not come back, but they have a lot invested in him. Even though AJ's salary ranks near the bottom of QB's, I hearing the Bengals may ask as much as a 2nd round pick for him. That's a lot to give up when you have a 1st rounder still on payroll. Shaun Hill is like 65 in qb years, and they have 0 experience behind him so they have to do something. I think they sign a free agent and ride it out.

I doubt the Bengals trade AJ at this point. They know he played good enough in the playoffs last year for the Bengals to win that game. Also, they have AJ signed to a cheap contract. Just look around the league at Dallas and Minnesota as the latest example in regards to needing to have a solid backup..

I could see Minnesota giving it a shot, but the Bengals are stupid if they trade AJ unless the Vikings are willing to give away the store to get him. If I'm the Bengals GM, I'm saying "Why would I make a trade with you just to be in potentially the exact same situation you're in right now?".

That's pretty much my thinking, too. If I'm the Bengals GM, I'm not trading AJ unless the Vikings make a really stupid offer. I'm talking something more than just a first round pick.

It really depends. Not many, if any, teams in the NFL really have a backup that they are saving just for injuries. Dalton is pretty firmly in as the starter despite AJ's 5 games last year. So I really think the Bengals would probably play around with the Vikings situation and see what they can get out of it because sooner or later they are going to have to make a decision on AJ's future and what they can make out of it. While his name is hot right now is probably the best time. But it's the Bengals, so who knows.

If I was to guess I would say that they are going to pass on the Vikings trade or they are going to make it too rich for the Vikings to accept, and they are going to really amp up trade possibilities either that the end of this year or the start of next year.
