Corso had commented about some other team "But you have to have a QB." Herbstreit - "Don't tell Alabama." I think it was uncalled for. Mac had his midseason struggles and I know that Kirk commented that he cringed every time he went back to pass, but I just don't think the situation is that bad or calls for that kind of putdown...

I agree, I would like to see what QB out of all 119 D1 teams has went undefeated against better competition than Gmac. Tebow maybe but there isn't a Va Tech on UF's schedule
 
Herbstreet is totally classless, but that's what I have come to expect from him. Greg struggled a little this season, but not to the point to justify Herbie's comments.

Greg has a chance to make Herbie look the fool that he is, if he continues to improve like he has the last two games.

As the #2 team in the BCS, and one of the few remaining undefeated teams, I'd say our QB is the least flashy and doesn't have the stats of the other high BCS and undefeated teams' QBs. (I will say that don't much about tcu's qb) It was probably a remark that should've been left unsaid, but we're still fighting the perception that if you can make GMac have to win the win, you'll have success against the TIDE. Hopefully, the msu game was the beginning of Greg coming back around to play well, and hopefully he will improve from week to week until the season is over.
 
Seems to me that Bama being back on top has brought out a lot of critics. I was probably as concerned as everyone else while McElroy was struggling. It doesn't matter, we still won all the games and he seems to have returned to the kind of QB I thought he was. I don't have any worries with McElroy. I think he's quite capable of leading this team all the way. I've started losing a little respect for Herbstreit, though.
 
Has Kirk watched the last two games against LSU and MSU???

GMAC started to turn it around slowly when he faced Tennessee.

I am indifferent with KH these days, his glitter is wearing off, esp. with the BAMA Nation..:rolleye2:
 
Let's also not forget that BAMA is not exactly a QB factory. Yes, I know Namath and Stabler, but in the last quarter century, we don't produce QB's who put up the big numbers. From a national perspective, we just put out a guy and ask him to not screw it up. Our QB's aren't flashy, they don't put up the TD's, they don't throw for the mega-yards.....they're managers. And when we rely on our running game so much, and our QB has a stretch of 3 or 4 games where his numbers continue to dwindle....well, you don't exactly get the national guys fawning over him. It is what it is.

for comparison sake, GMac is the 61st rated QB nationally, while Crompton is 41. However, GMac does have an overall passer rating that is .9 higher....137.2 for GMac vs 136.3 for Crompton.

Luckily, Greg's accustomed to criticism. I can't wait to see him shut everybody up with a dozen more pinpoint deep balls.

And isn't it crazy that John Parker never suffered this kind of scrutiny, despite the fact that his stats were worse than Greg's? Was it because he was cockier? Or just more experienced by the time people started paying attention?

I think he did get this kind of criticism until his senior year (and McElwain)...

Everyone is welcome to their opinion but Herbstreit has been on the side of Alabama many, many times.

"I love (quarterback Greg McElroy). I think Greg McElroy will be one of the big surprises in the SEC this year. I think, as a junior, he has enough experience, just being around the program, being around John Parker (Wilson), being around (offensive coordinator) Jim McElwain to understand what this offense is about. ... I think he's going to have a huge year."
 
With a few solid games passing in the last four, McElroy could end up having the best season of any Bama QB statistically.

Herbstreit is usually one of our biggest media "supporters", and he is generally one of the most unbiased and analytical guys out there. He does his homework. That doesn't mean he watches GMs every step. So while the comment was uncalled for, it hardly makes Kirk a "classless jerk". Now I've got to run to the stadium or I won't get a seat. Adios! :)

I remembered that when KH started picking on Greg. Pretty fickle, I think...

You are correct Bayou.
Herbie has been alot more supportive than most. Seems some just can't handle any criticism of our beloved Tide.
 
I coulda sworn that Desmond Howard said that. In fact I would have -- my hearing must be bad off. In fact, I started to come back to my room to post something about it but never made it back here.

Maybe Herbie said and DH repeated it.

Color me bumfoozled.

Give me Herbistreit over 99.999% of the other sports dudes out there. I don't always agree with him but he's the least agenda-driven analyst out there. Compare him with someone like Danielson and Herbie wins EVERY time.

You are right, it was Desmond, and he had been a huge Bama supporter until he watched TCU..he thinks they are the best team in the country right now.
