LANK/NIL...

So when does the whole LANK/NIL stuff as discussed in this thread see the light of day? I read a lot of articles on Bama football. I watch beaucoup YouTube channels dedicated to Bama football. I hear/read many people wondering what’s up w this team yet not one video or article bringing this stuff to light. Not one discussion re the team being held captive by a cabal of players. So much so that the coach can’t pull a QB who is obviously deficient. So is all this rumor? Don’t get me wrong. I believe it. I just can’t fathom why this isn’t being openly discussed more so.

You are wise to be skeptical.
I would say this does not get more public attention because no player wants to come out in the open and say, "I will not try hard unless my guy starts." What NFL GM would draft a guy like that?
Next, anonymous sources (either inside or peripheral to the program) do not want to get cut off by publicly stating on the record something the authorities would prefer kept under wraps. Airing team dirty laundry is normally not good for team dynamics and I'm sure Coach DeBoer is trying to win football games.
On the other hand, maybe this conjecture is all rubbish, just outsiders trying to read the tea leaves.

Nice explanation. I wonder what rumors are true or not true as well. Also, when recruits and parents come to town, they seem to love everything about Bama. Do our current players say anything about LANK, etc to the recruits, and if so, what? Do the recruits get sucked in or is nothing said? After Milroe leaves, someone needs to end the LANK stuff and start over with something else that is better and done the right way for all the players.

It is high time that all of the bare bones of this deal be made transparent and completely public. I'm getting a nagging feeling that more is involved than just $$. If so, we contributors and fans are entitled to know. IN 99.9% of similar situations to last night, JM would have been pulled. He wasn't. Why not? It's been said that, if JM leaves, then the LANK leaves, including #2 on offense. If that be the case, I believe we're treading on thin ice. Maybe even legally. Perhaps NIL is leading to its logical conclusion - implosion...
Blow it up and let come what may!!!

I love RW potential, but if he needs to go too, so be it!

Bryce Young got benched in the NFL. If an NIL deal says you can’t be benched, that’s ridiculous.
The Giants demoted Daniel Jones to the practice squad playing safety, and he's making like $30mm a year, although he's since chosen to ask for a release, which was granted.

IF NIL is going to empower college players more than the CBA in the NFL empowers professional players, then college football is doomed.

If the choice is to keep the rest of the LANK crowd to keep Williams, then won't we be looking at the same frustrations next year even with Williams on the team?

What difference does it make if we keep a stellar talent like him at the cost of being the same offense we have been the last two years?

The problem isn't NIL per se. The problem is that NIL funds are being controlled by a player, and since they are controlling the paycheck of the other players, those players have a loyalty to the controlling player that extends past abilities on the field.

I guess that would depend on how LANK is structured.
I’ve always believed MEroe and Arnold were the proprietors of this brand and were making the bulk of the money from it. They only let the other players and sports in as a way to expand it and share the wealth.

I don't know what's true and what's not. Just from life experience, when there's this much talk on a topic, there's most often a material amount of truth to it.

So I wouldn't be surprised if there were some inaccuracy around some of the details attributed to LANK. I would be very surprised the cited effect on the team is total garbage.

Probably true.

FWIW, I've heard that JM/TA controlling the lank "payout" got corrected after last year. TIFWIW.

IOW, "Lank" is supposedly more equitable this year in its payout.

That's probably true relative to the payouts, but do you think that would have altered the loyalty of the original LANK crowd?

There is a way to fix this. Very simply go back to the old NCAA rules. If playing college football, getting a free college education (with free food, medical, housing, training, etc.), and the potential to play in the NFL afterwards is not enough then those players can go to work and make all the money they want.

I'd much rather watch college athletes who love the game, and their school, than a bunch of entitled kids who could care less about the school or the game.

There will be lots of crying and whining, but at some point, the grownups have to make the changes needed to sustain the game.

While I agree with you, courts have said differently. It’s a total mess.

That train has sailed...

Could be, but I think OU had our number.

They were really well prepared for everything we do in all phases of the game, and our game plan and execution were awful.

We’re lucky it was not like 35-3, because they shot themselves in the foot a few times in scoring position.

I am truly in disbelief at how horrendous we were on Saturday.

There isn’t one single positive I can come away with.

awbern is gonna give us another dose of the OU game plan this Saturday.

I just hope the coaches know what to do (and not do) for that...

Unfortunately, said player is the cog to the entire offense...

And those players didnt bank the money. They got bills to pay now. No money no Hellcat.
