Look at these two photos from the 1934 team??Odd

Re: Look at these two photo from the 1934 team??Odd

The second picture with the extra person is from the link at the Bryant Museum
here

The first photo is from an old 1993 CD-R that would only play on the old Windows 95. And will not play on anything else - But it came from the University and has many old photos on them but they are not labeled. The CD-R has both photos on it.

Just in case we haven't beaten this to death, I think #45 in the top right hand was a sneak on for the picture and later erased. That funny looking left arm on #20 was created because some of his arm musculature was removed in the erasing process.

Problem is, in 1934 the "erasing" process was very crude, also the process for putting "ghost" images on film was just as primitive. Erasing unwanted elements meant photo retouching with brush and retouch paints. It was usually so bad that it took no expert to pick it out. Ghost images could be put on film by double exposure and time exposure, both of which went on the negative. Changing the positive print was tougher. It usually consisted of cutting out a new element, pasting it on the photo, then re-photographing.

My guess is that someone took this old photo, scanned it in Adobe, and worked on it in Photoshop.

So you are saying that the picture in the media guide and the one on the Bryant Museum site is photoshoped?
It is the one that is called the 'Official team picture".

I emailed the bryant museum but have not heard anything back.

That is Sherlock Holmes' firm opinion. I don't think the pranksters of 1934 were up to that slick of a job. With computers, scanners and photoshop all over the landscape these days, it becomes a simple project, There are probably several on tidefans who could do it as cleverly as the mystery 'shoppers.;)

Unless you hear back from the Museum, looks like we'll have to Cold Case this one.

The disappearing #45 must be one of Marty McFly's relatives.

Back to the Future anyone?

:biga2:

There is always trouble when someone screws around with the space-time continueum. This is really heavy.

Pepsi-Free, Tab, Johnny B. Goode, ...:BigA: :BigA: :BigA: :BigA:

Who is that wearing #12 on the back row? :BigA: :BigA: :BigA: :BigA:

Regarding the "Back to the Future" reference; here is Loraine's father talking about FAT Fillup Foolmer
He's an idiot. Comes from upbringing. His parents are probably idiots too. Lorraine, if you ever have a kid that acts that way I'll disown you.

Ok, I am going to throw out a theory about this. #45 was running late for the photo shoot and they took the picture without him. Then he showed up minutes later and they shot another picture with him. In 1993 The University used the picture without #45, then they found the second photo between 1993 and 2005. The second photo had been lost and someone came forward with it. In 2005 they used the second picture for the media guide with #45.

Fit to Be Tide, you watch entirely too much TV. Next you will probably suggest something along the lines of "Surviror 45 Tuscaloosa".:biggrin2:
J., I actually don't. Empty nest + semiretired=time for it, but the fare they're serving up is egregious, at best. Very picky what I watch.

:biga2:

I can solve this

I can figure this out. My girlfriend's housemate is the grandson of Joe D. I'm sure he can call his grandpa up and find out why. He was honored at half time of a game this season- I'll give ya an update when John calls me back

And here's a theory right back:

Mystery #45 was Alabama's Rudi, long before Notre Dame had one. He was sparking to become a Tide footballer, but didn't have the wattage --- too small, too slow, etc. Unlike ND, Bama's coach didn't put putzes in a game just to please the crowd and give the putz his giggles.

On his death bed #45 told his grandson: "Grandson, this is the one thing I've always wanted above all others, to have my picture in the Tide team photo. I can't do it myself; it would look too icky and phony. Promise me that when they invent Photoshop you will insert my picture there in some inconspicuous place."

Grandson did as he was bid, and left the doctored photo where it could be found easily by trusting Bama office toilers. He did so despite the quiver it gave him to have two #45's in the same team portrait. He couldn't change the original #45's number without creating a great stink. And he couldn't mess with gramp's high school number without making the codger flip in his grave.

But some sharp-eyed rascal spotted the chicanery, and now grandsonny is a hunted fugitive on the 'net. Perhaps he has snuck into tidefans and even now is reading these words......:conf2:

As long as #12 is there on both pictures, I'm fine. If someone erased him on the pic, then we would would have a worldwide investigation. And a private inquiry from The Godfather.

"What the hell is a gigawatt?"

His name was Will E. Makitt, he apologize profusely after missing the first shot & coach let him get in on second. After his career at Alabama he later wrote a book called Fifty Yards to the Outhouse. It was calibrated by Betty Dontt.

I disagree with that conclusion, and here is why:

The image with two #45's has been cropped and zoomed. If that were the original image, then whoever did the work to create the second image would have had to zoom out and add in the extra features to the margins. He would have had to add grass to the bottom, foliage on the right, and architectural features to the top and left.

It is much more likely that the original photo was the first one. With a magnifying glass, a razor and a steady hand, a 1930's "farker" cut and pasted the second #45 onto the original negative. Then, he zoomed and cropped it in the darkroom to cover his tracks.
