Seem to remember another Simms' son commit to TN and then ended up at TX.

Allow me (also a recruiting ignoramous) to step in and muddy the waters. If I understand what the OP is asking, I believe that I suffered similar confusion a few months ago.

First, and most importantly, Bama's QB commitment for the upcoming class is Phillip Sims - no relation at all to former NFL NY Giants QB Phil Simms. (This is obvious to anyone who actually sees a photo of the recruit Phillip, which I finally did and surprisingly discovered that he was black.)

The confusing part is that some time ago (last spring, maybe?) Joe Montana and his son, a QB recruit prospect, visited Tuscaloosa on a tour of several program's campuses. Montana's boy committed elsewhere.

I'm guessing that the OP, like me, confused the Phillip Sims name and the NFL QB's son stories as I did.
