Do you think that is his mindset? I don't think it is. I think just like the overwhelming majority of these kids who now have access to make a lot of money, they are becoming more and more distracted by it. The guy better ball out because if he doesn't, you can guarantee the "LANK" stuff, the public appearances at the NFL draft, Nascar events etc. will be publicly thrown in his face about as hard as an MLB 98 mph fastball.
I don't think that's his mindset, and I don't think he's even sniffing the idea of changing positions.

He thinks he's a great QB and I'm guessing he thinks he's going to make it in the NFL.

That said, he's most likely not going to be a QB in the NFL, so he'd either have to look at changing positions (although as noted above I'm not exactly sure what position he would transition to although he certainly has the physical tools to make a switch...I suppose) so he's probably best off making all the money he can right now.

I have no problem with Milroe doing this. Is is what NIL was meant to be. I hope he makes so much money that he can skip on the NFL. I just hate the whole LANK thing. I would have hated it just as much no matter who came up with it.

There's no way that's his mindset because he has bought into the media hype. It's clear by his words and actions that he thinks he's just the greatest. No doubt he thinks he will be the #1 pick
Idk if I'd go so far as to say he thinks he's the greatest, but he certainly is confident.

I don't think he's as bad as some people here think, but I also don't think he's anywhere near as good as he thinks he is.

IF he doesn't get the starting job (or loses it during the season) we will see what his character really is all about.

LANK was/is stupid. That said, he should cash in when he can. He might improve enough as a QB to be a good one for us this year, but he's most likely never going to make it in the NFL as a QB.

IF he has no future as a QB at the next level and IF he has no plans to change positions to possibly have a future in the NFL, then he probably has to cash in now and his main priority may be making as much money as he can before his football career is over.

And on another note, if he were willing to consider a position change for an NFL future, what would that be? He's too short to be a tight end. RB, WR, DB? Is FB even a thing anymore? I know that Michael Robinson made the switch from college QB to NFL FB, but I'm not sure how many teams even use an actual FB anymore, seems like that role is filled by a TE these days.

that's a lot of ifs, but why not play.

IF the goal is to maximize total lifetime earnings related to football, I'd advise him to do everything possible to protect/enhance his draft status, even IF he were to be a total bust and never play a down as a QB in the NFL.

Why?

Right now, his draft projections are all over the place. He's got a broader spread of opinions and evals than anyone I can remember - the higher rated ones rate him on what the potential could be, the others are based more on what he's actually shown so far. I saw a site that did like on3 does with consensus rankings but can't find it now, and it had him averaged out as 32nd rated player and borderline 1st/2nd round with the spread being into the top 10 down to the low 3rd. IF that were to hold at least at the top of the second, that first contract is worth $9M+, and that's life changing money for him and his family, especially if it's invested well. It's a bet worth placing that unless he loses the starting job this season that an NFL team would take a chance on the potential, even if he doesn't really progress on all the things he needs to do to be an effective distributor. Face it, Anthony Richardson put up very sub-par stats as a QB in the SEC (not as good as JM last year), but was still drafted top 5 based on potential and even started the NFL season before being lost for the season due to multiple injuries sustained and only playing 4 games. So do EVERYTHING under your control to at least get that first contract at least toward the top of the 2nd. That contract value dwarfs anything you can get now.

On other positions - it's way to late for him to make a change and have any real expectation of holding onto a first or early second round pick.

But, hypothetically, what could he play? who knows. He certainly has measurables to play RB or Safety. Maybe LB but that's a stretch without a few more pounds. WR, specifically slot, could be an option also. Thing is all those positions have intangibles also, and without seeing a guy take reps at those spots it's hard to know. For example as a S, a player has to have a certain degree of hip flexibility and mobility - not to the same degree as a CB, but more than a QB needs to have. Does JM have that trait? He might, but we just don't know because we've not seen him in a position where he'd have to show that.

You're spot on.

That said, Idk who the best person is to start at QB for us, but it's pretty obvious that some people have simply decided that they don't like Milroe, don't want Milroe, and will criticize him for anything and everything he does.

I honestly can't remember people on here bashing a player on the roster who has played his butt off (for good or bad) for the team like they have Milroe.

You'd think he transferred to Auburn, took all the playbooks, reported bogus violations to the NCAA and set off a pipe bomb in the head coach's toilet.

I don't get it...it's moved far beyond simply thinking he's not the best person for the job.

Very strange.
Nah, its as simple as it being that he's not a QB. He just isn't.

He doesn't but people want to make up stuff to back their viewpoint. I knew starting this post would bring out the anti-Milroe crowd but I had no idea to this degree. As someone said Terrion not being targeted and don't remember Bryce being targeted this way for his Dr. Pepper commercials. I hope it is a #1 hit and Jalen and Terrion make a boatload of money off of it because it is a great, motivational acronym.
I love this....the anti-Milroe crowd comes out because you post something about Milroe. Then complain that those same folks aren't "targeting" Arnold when Arnold isn't even on the team anymore.

Bryce was doing commercials while also still playing QB at a high level. Milroe has never played QB at a high level.....if he can do it and still do all his NIL stuff that's wonderful. A-day says he hasn't improved much, but we shall see.

Let's get this thread back on topic crew ... the original poster was referencing that Arnold and Milroe made a song with Walker Hayes. We already have a thread dedicated to QB talk.

You might have to just ban posts that mention Milroe, because it seems like every one that mentions him devolves into a QB thread.

But I will heed your warning/advice and stop posting about this.

Thanks davefrat for understanding, unfortunately if it continues to turn into a QB discussion thread or mores a Milroe isn't a QB thread then I will have to close it. We try to avoid making duplicate topic threads and since we already have a QB discussion thread ... this one would end up becoming moot. Just trying to be fair to the person who started this since it is about a different topic.
