Re: Multiple sources: Urban Meyer will step down again

And here they come. Here are two different ends of the spectrum of what people have had to say about Meyer's resignation

Spurrier on Meyer: “I’m saddened that he is stepping down, but after stepping down for a few days last year,it’s somewhat understandable that he felt that this was best for him and his family. I believe he will coach again some day, but if he doesn’t, he will go down as one of the best coaches in college football history.”

From Mike Freeman of CBS: "Meyer's ego did get out of control. He acted like the soundtrack from “Inception” should play every time he entered a room."

Re: Multiple sources: Urban Meyer will step down again

I remember hearing something that was said last year not only about his health, but also about a life altering experience with the Jesus Christ, while with the Tebow family.
Can somebody remind us of the details?
There are two things I know; one is that a deep spiritual experience with the Lord can have a lasting effect on your priorities, and two, Prozac has a lasting effect on your ability to aggressively pursue things in general. What I mean is that if you are taking it for stress it will also affect your aggressive nature in other areas also.

Malzhan would be a decent coach at UF. With all the talent and speed already enrolled his offense could score 70-points per game. Not that it matters though, Mullen is probably a top priority right now.

You know, in Florida the weather is sunny and the humidity helps with tuberculosis so Pat Dye may be a viable option.

As much fun as Urban Meyer is to mock, if his priorities have actually changed, then good for him. Honestly, your family should always be the most important thing in life. If what you're doing doesn't bring you any satisfaction, and you're in a position to be able to do something differently, you should.

I wonder if Savannah Dare could shed some light on the effect the meds have.

Dont forget Chris Peterson...we would be fools not so shoot an offer his way! Look at what hes done with "less than stellar" recruits! And, yes, I know he didn't play SEC type teams, but I think he would do wonders here. Recruiting is the only big question mark....

Kinda scary what Petrino could do with a great DC & the players he will have to run his offense at Florida..

I think if/when the barn blows Oregon's doors off, we will see that Chip Kelly only looks good because of his competition. Remember, Masoli was a world-beater at Oregon. We've all seen how he's performed in the SEC...
Same could be said about Urban when he was at Utah..

If Florida offers the job to Petrino, I have a very hard time seeing him turn it down. It is a top 3 job in college football and arguably #1. Offers like that don't come along every day, regardless of how happy he says he is at Arky.

Thus the question is this....if you could have Petrino or Dan Mullen, who do you pick? Sure Petrino may be a bit of nomad and might be a flight risk, but Alabama found a coach who, like Petrino, had been a head coach at two colleges and one NFL team, and it worked out rather well. Mullen brings plenty of assets to the table (familiarity to the school, the system, the recruiting area, etc.), yet he remains somewhat unproven.

I thought this last year when Urb temporarily retired but I'll miss the epic clashes between Alabama and Florida. I think the 2008 and 2009 games will definitely go down in SEC lore as some all time classics. Eyes of the college football world and nation were on that game both years. Just seemed like a clash of the titans when Meyer and Saban went toe to toe. Hopefully Florida will be able to right the ship because I admit I enjoy watching our battles.

Re: Urban Meyer to Step Down - AGAIN?

FWIW, the Florida boards are speculating that this resignation is taking place in part because Foley wanted staff changes that Meyer wouldn't agree to.

In terms of replacements, I think Dan Mullen is an obvious candidate although his HC experience is limited. I would expect Bob Stoops and Bob Petrino to be on the radar, as well.
Now that makes sense. Kind of the old David Cutcliffe/Mike Shula ploy to run off a coach.

Mullen No doubt he would leave MSU and walk to Florida for the HC job
Malzahn No chance in hell. Foley is smarter than that
Petrino Could be a long shot, but he is a proven HC with a high powered offense.
Stoops Definite long shot. Oklahoma is just as good a HC job as Florida and he only has to beat Texas to get a BCS bid.
Petersen Even longer shot. Left coast guy who IMO will be the next HC at USCw

Re: Urban Meyer to Step Down - AGAIN?

i understand mullen and mahlzahn are being looked at who do you guys believe will get it?
I think that Mullen is target #1, but didn't Urban Meyer come from Utah to Florida. Doesn't Utah run the same kind of offense as Florida. (at least the same kind Florida tried to run this year). Would Florida go after the guy at Utah whose name I can't remember if they can't get Mullen. Krymsonman

UF is going to go after a younger HC, from a middle tier program who runs a similar offense to Meyer. It doesn't make sense to go after a coordinator, a HC at a big program, or someone with age.
