***OFFICIAL*** BAMA vs VT - Post Game Thread...

Trent Richardson looked like a fast moving tractor on that last series. He is going to be something special. Terry Grant still looks tentative. Upchurch will get his chances. I was dissappointed in the run defense giving up yards up the middle, I expected them to be a brick wall. Gmac will be fine, that was a very good defense he was going up against for his first game. O line gave good protection for the most part but couldn't open up any holes for the run game until the end of the 2nd qtr.

Great game, great win, two teams with a lot of heart and great coaching.

Making the adjustments and playing tougher in the 2nd half showed me that this team has the mental and physical abilities to compete at a very high level. VT never gave up and hit hard the whole game. We dominated them on Defense and did quite well on Offense in the 2nd half. However, the uncharacteristic mental-breakdown type penalties (late hits, unsportsmanlike calls, etc) happened at really critical times. For us to overcome that, I'm pretty happy with the overall result.

Very happy Ingram is ok and glad Richardson got some playing time in mop up duty in the first game...he looked good. Playing time in 1st game: that's using a key recruiting tool right there ;)

PS> I've been up since 3:30am Sat morning waiting for this game... i dozed off late in the 3rd qtr until my M-I-L yelled when we scored.... my heart is still beating fast and I've been wide awake since ;)

No shame in this loss. You guys are a great team. We played lights out on defense for the first half, but unfortunately spent 40 minutes on the field. We have a National Championship quality defense, but much less so the offense. Love Ryan Williams, love Cody Grimm and Jake Johnson. We kept Julio to relatively little.

Great game guys.

Its scary how good this team might be. If the O-line improves from game to game ad it should by the time the big games come we should be ok.

People have made a lot of negative comments about our O-Line, but besides the first quarter and the majority of the second quarter, they played lights out. Our pass protection was as good if not better than it was at many times last year. Our run blocking could use some work, but it was still better than you'll find most anywhere else.

Impressed with you guys.

I doubt y'all give 34 points up again this year. And, Williams is a very good back.

Only two surprises for me in this one:

1. Lots of mistakes. We did more damage to ourselves than VT did to us.

2. Greg McElroy had a great first game! Considering the quality of the defense he was facing, and that it was his first start, he was really, really impressive. He could be special. I wasn't expecting him to stink, but I didn't expect him to do as well as he did, either. He did it under a good bit of pressure too.

I'm not surprised at how Ingram played. Was expecting something like that. Not surprised that our defense held them well under 200 yards either, when they weren't busy shooting themselves in the foot.

Grimm's a gamer. I was really really impressed the way he came back from that hit Upchurch delivered. He even stripped the ball from him later on for a little bit of payback. He looked good.

Yeah, he literally put his spine on the line. You just don't tackle that way. Us Hokie fans have known what he's all about for a year or so, but hopefully this wil be a breakout game. He's really got great instinct.

Congrats Tide fans.

That was a high quality front 7 they were up against tonight, among the nation's best. Considering that, we don't have any OL issues that should worry us.

Life is good. Bama played well against a very salty Tech squad. Even though we were losing for a bit during the game, I never felt we would lose. Our defense will keep us in any game and our offense chips away and takes chances.
