***OFFICIAL*** BAMA vs VT - Post Game Thread...

Re: ***OFFICIAL*** Post Game Thread...

Yeah... I had the same problem today (same co-op DSL), but problem was only when I was attempting to get on Tidefans.com. Everywhere else I browsed was ok.

Same here, I guess the board was having pre-game jitters like the rest of us :)

Re: Thank God

Lets abandon the wildcat? :BigA:

I would not abandon the ?wildcat? just yet. However, I would not call it the wildcat. We are wild elephants, not wildcats. We could also call it a Tidal Wave or Tsunami. It may come in handy on down the road against some teams esp. with Julio or Maze taking the handoff from Ingram. The center must work on that snap also.

I am totally exhausted. I was concerned early in the 4th quarter, but I think Bama wore VT's Defense down. Look at the yardage and the time of possession.

I was also concerned with the personal fouls and mental lapses. Did the guy that McClain hit for a PF, instigate that? I'll have to review that replay to see if the guy did something to him. I don't think VT would have scored the TD without those two PF's. Did the officials get too close to McClain on that 2nd PF? It seems like the official was in his space.

The Kickoff coverage team needs some work.

Not saying they were bad, but where were those officials from: SEC or ACC? I actually think they called a decent game, I just did not hear what conference they were from.

Upchurch looked strong tonight but Grant looked pretty tentative to me. Maybe he just needs smore touches than he's gotten so far. I want him to do well.

Carpenter got called for a couple of holds tonight. I don't know what was up with Mcclain but those calls on him were really out of character for him. The VT guy must have really gotten in his head about something. That penalty pretty much gave them the TD. The play would have pushed them back and they most likely would have ended up with a FG attempt.

The VT O'line kept Cody in check and out of the backfield. I know Cody is a big guy but he hasn't shown that he can dominate the middle yet like I hope he will before the season is over.

Same here. That is what I couldn't figure out. I could get on ESPN, MSN, YAHOO, ect.... But the place I wanted on the most.....:frown:

Caution: Giddiness Alert!!!

Last year I was shocked how we came out and dominated Clemson. This season, I wasn't shocked, but surprised at how we played against Tech. I was thinking we might win around 20-17, but honestly wouldn't have been shocked if we would have lost. What was so good to see and quite refreshing was the fact that we were struggling in some areas and made the necessary adjustments to take control of a top notch team. I caught myself thinking at about the 5 minute mark, "Man, I can't believe how loaded we are!" I mean, yeah we had our moments of ineptness tonight, but to make mistakes like we did against a quality team and still basically own them, is just flat out awesome to watch.

If we just continue to work out the kinks and build off of this performance, we CAN match any team that we play against. It's one game at a time, but Tebow....we're coming....we're coming. Roll Tide!!!

It was nerve-racking, but I thoroughly enjoyed this game tonight. I can't remember the last time a Bama team overcame so many mistakes at critical times to beat such a high quality opponent. VT's defense is the real deal and we ran up almost 500 yards on them. Unbelievable really. If we could have gotten out of our own way in some spots, it might have been similar to the Clemson game last year.

I thought the o-line overcame a really rough 1st half, settled in and played pretty well the rest of the way. TOP helped us alot as VT's defense started to wear down a bit. The difference in Greg from the 1st to the 2nd half was unreal. That kid has some guts and I love to watch a player like that. Ingram was a beast of course and I thought Upchurch was super (despite the fumble). Roy is one of my favorites and good things just seem to happen when he gets the ball. I hope the fumble doesn't put him in the doghouse too much. Also, I thought Peek was a real difference maker. He is freakin' huge. Even my wife commented on how big he is.

Folks, our defense ain't no joke. At times, I was absolutely thrilled with the d-line play. Dareus was a freak out there. The only thing that really bothered me on defense was the big coverage bust. Of course, that came after a ticky-tack (in my opinion) pass interference call that kept us on the field. Take away the bust and the Williams touchdown and they only have about 75-80 yards total. Pretty impressive.

I wasn't able to get on Tidefans all day...I'm on hi-speed dsl-BellSouth.
No problem with other sites.

great game I was yelling so loud my wife thought I had gone crazy. The game had me on the edge of my seat all night. I thougt our offensive line did a pretty good job tonight. As the year goes on they will only get better. Greg Mc. Looked real good he should turn out to be one of the best QB's we have had in many years. I did not really like all the wildcat we ran tonight. If we continue to run it we should use either Starr or Brad Smelly ( this will give us a better option to pass) This could be a very special team beore the year is out :BigA:

lost a few years off my life tonight. felt like we outcoached ourselves at times. 1. 3rd and one call without the lead
2. the wildcat, we gave away plays
3. kicking deep after it was obvious that we were having trouble with coverage.
no, i'm not bashing the staff. this always happens early in the season, ie. first game. CNS will get it straight...didnt we have the same problems last year with KO coverage at this time.....yep
i'm proud and happy with the way we played except for rolando(showing his tail) he better not start that crap again.

About Roy Upchurch's fumble, let us not forget Coffee had fumble problems during the first half of last year and he was able to correct that. The defender did make a good play, but Roy was carrying it a little loosely... it looked like he had broken into the clear and it probably felt that way to him as well. I expect to see him come back from it.

I was very impressed by our play - besides the penalties. Those are correctable mistakes, and I expect we'll shore them up. Kick coverage looks just like it did at the beginning of last year. Hopefully, it will improve as it did a year ago. Take away the long returns and critical penalties and this game isn't close. And that was a very good defense we had nearly 500 yards on...

I didn't see it mentioned anywhere in the thread, but what about the play of Brian Selman? It's not often a long snapper gets much attention (unless he is recruited by Auburn), but he made a couple of really good plays on special teams tonight. Props to him.

They mentioned him on radio....Good call. Hustle unfortunately is often overlooked

LOL . Well done :D And that dude washed out .

There is so much difference in how hard our RBs (Ingram and Upchurch) run this year compared to just a few years ago. Ladies and gentlemen, we put up almost 500 yards against one of the two or three best defenses we will see this year. We held them to less than 160 total yards.
I am extremely pleased with the outcome. Our offensive line will get better, our D will not the same stupid mistakes, and I expect to see some personnel changes on the KO team. All in all, a great way to start the season.
