It seems on NET a road loss to a good team is better than a home win against a bad team
In the poll yesterday, I "voted" we'd get beat by +10, but I said we could lose the game and still move forward, which, I think we've done. Losses in basketball are much different than football in this regard. Taking all things into consideration (injuries, roster depletion, first year coach) although we would have preferred the upset, last night had plenty of positives.
If we are doing nothing else this year, we are serving notice that Bama will be a terror to play in upcoming seasons!

I find it interesting that while we might play poorly for long stretches, we are for the most part giving max effort. That always pays off at some point.
Most, if not all of the the times in the past that Auburn would have scored 95 against us in Auburn, we would have lost the game by 40 or more.

Records broken for three point shooting while taking one of the top teams in the country into OT, all while short-handed and a first year coach and new system and on the road!

Reading some of their boards, a couple of posters dissed our offense as being a NAIA-level gimmick. Then, other posters reminded them that it was about what they were running last year... 
Calling it an NAIA level gimmick is stupid. Bama took what Auburn gave them, simple as that. The mental calculus is extremely simple: take it in inside where an elite rim protector is waiting to swat everything into the second row, or take open 3s where you hit at a 35%+ clip. But to quibble, although we did shoot a lot of 3s last year, our offense didn't really hit its stride until we started running our offense through our inside/outside swiss army knife, Chuma Okeke. We got by UK, but that was a devastating loss and we'd probably be hanging a championship banner had he not gone down against UNC.
It is also just the analytics of basketball. With the ability to process more data and recognize that three point shots are more valuable than 2 point mid range shots, the value of three point shooting has increased. Coaches design offensive schemes to maximize this, and players train for it.

Laughable. I was listening to "The First Team" this morning with McElroy and a special guest filling in for Danny Kanell. I can't remember the name but he was a basketball special guest. Anyway, they were talking about "rule changes" to "open up the game" and he stated that there doesn't need to be any more rule changes, but that college basketball is stagnant due to the "lack of coaching innovation". He states that everyone runs the same timeout calls in the closing minutes, and in key situations. Anyway, the posters that don't like our offense are just "fundamentalists" that stifle change.
The bottom line about basketball is that you put the ball in the basket more times than the other team. As long as it is within the "rules" you can move the ball any way you want. However, you want to pass the ball to move quickly and dribble to get out of trouble. You can stack all five players on one side if it accomplishes your goal. I've got a book at home on "The Wishbone" offense for Basketball.

OK, now a thread that we're actually more talented than they. On making the NCAA, the committee can and does take into account injuries. They can acknowledge the damage from Herb's absence and the fact that he will be back. They also take into account season-ending injuries...

With 30+ games, losses in basketball can be more important than wins if the team/staff know how to use them. It seems Coach Oats has instilled in the team a no quit attitude and a take what they give you philosophy. The schedule we are playing is pretty brutal and it’s starting to pay dividends. At this stage in Coach Oats reign, I would rather end up with around 20 wins and a team that has been born in the fire of competition than a team approaching the upper 20’s in wins and has never had to pick themselves up off the floor after a gut wrenching loss and not given up the next game but persevered.
Yes, we were shooting 3's, but Bettle got absolutely hammered more than once, and Kira should have had several and ones, but no call. Think about the foul they called on Petty when he didn't even touch the guy.1 more point at the end or 1 less point by AU gets us out of Auburn with a win. The officials have been so inconsistent this year. Against UT, we shot 8 free throws at home, none in the 2nd half. 8. They shot 32. We were driving to the basket every bit as much as they were and it simply was not called the same way on both ends. Auburn, as most teams do, has a distinct advantage inside compare to us so that leads to more fouls, but not to the extent we've been getting this year. Even at home we almost never get close to the number of free throws as our opponents and this is not new. It has happened for years. I don't know if it is the dynamic between the officials and the staff, the habits of the officials at certain arenas or what, but it has been a problem for a while.
We still have opportunities to get to the tourney, but we are at the point where LSU is a must win. If we lose, then we are out barring a run in the SEC tourney. If we make it, I think we'll make some noise in the tournament.
This type of shooting has trickled down to the NCAA and is similar to what Coach Oats runs. Shooting from the elbow or along the baseline has gone away.
It's a layup/dunk or a three point shot. Not much in between.
This isn't a NAIA gimmick like what Grinnell runs, it's what the NBA runs.
It's frustrating to watch. It's as bad as the astounding stats on no-calls on offensive holding in football. I guess it's Bama Fatigue...
