Dabo doesn't want to play the portal/NIL game and has said it directly on several occasions. He's since softened on NIL a bit but refuses to make use of the portal. Clemson has added 1 player in the last 24 months (former Alabama QB Paul Tyson) and has lost 15 players. It's like self-imposing scholarship limits on yourself every year not to take advantage of what the portal allows. I hate the portal, Dabo hates the portal, Saban probably hates the portal ... the difference is, one of us is using it to his advantage, and it's not me or Dabo.
If Dabo were to continue to stand firm on that issue, he disqualifies himself from ever being the coach here. You cannot be a modern college football coach and not excel at using the all the tools, portal included, to improve your position every year.
You know who DOES use the portal, Jess? Deion "Prime Time" Sanders
Whoever Bama decides to go after, just make sure:
1. They can recruit in this new NIL/TP era (or create a position that is GM-ish to navigate the changes)
2. Great offensive mind
3. Will bring a solid DC
4. At least have 1 NC or at least a steady presence in the CFP
So to Pate's credit, there isn't a current coach that fits at least 2 or more of those criteria so if you want to rush Saban off, good luck.

Kiffin is a great offensive mind but risky everywhere else

If anybody is willing to stomach Kiffin, then Prime would be a cakewalk....
In all honesty Prime would ensure the talent level remains the same, the coaching would be on par, and he would draw a crowd. I recall people calling Saban a jerk, labeling him a liar for how he handled the situation in Miami, and how he handles the media.
But winning made all that noise die down, and all of you have been more than satisfied how everything has turned out.
Stop hating on Coach Prime, its quite juvenile
Until recently I really figured that Saban would coach for another 3-5 years after this year. But during a few of my late evening bourbon think tank sessions, it wouldn't surprise me if he calls it quits sooner rather than later. I could be absolutely 100% wrong about this, but I think this new era that college football has transitioned to with the Transfer Portal/NIL really works against what might be Saban's biggest strength as a head coach....developing and maintaining a strong/consistent culture within the program.
The way I see it is that you can put most of the guys that Alabama signs in each recruiting class into a couple of categories....There are those very few that come in with a maturity well beyond their age...those guys genuinely see the big picture, and they are usually the ones that you see who earn early playing time because of that maturity level. Then I think most of the guys fall into this next group which are guys that are maybe mature for their age, but they are just young and maybe aren't used to not starting or playing so they have that thought of transferring because they aren't playing during their freshman year....Well to me its that group of guys where Saban has really succeeded in building the program to where it is. Reason being is because coach had two things working in his favor....a long list/track record of developing those guys in that second group into NFL draft picks....high draft picks for a lot of them; and the fact that anyone looking for more playing time will still have to sit out a year, which meant another year of no playing time; so those guys were more apt to stick it out.
Well now days those guys in that second group can hit the road without any real consequences, so now those guys are able to make what could be rash decisions, due to the fact that there is really no down side in doing so with the new transfer rules....So while Saban has always ran a tight ship, he may figure that he has to approach this new era of college football player in a different manner than he did under the ole rules. People have made note over the last few years that there appears to be a softer Saban...well that could be why.....so if he can't hold the players as accountable as he could with his previous teams then he could come the conclusion that this version of college football just doesn't do it for him anymore.

Stop misusing the word hate. It's likely a legitimate dislike for Deion s style, which is understandable for many.
But speaking of Deion, IMO, it's too early for a big-time program to seriously consider him. He did very well at Jackson State, hired a good staff at CU, used the portal very well, and started off there with a bang. There's a decent chance that he will be a good coach, but not enough returns to declare at this time, at least not for a program like Alabama.
Also, it wasn't just winning, it was understanding from the beginning that Saban didn't lie, he was wrong - a big difference. But the whole episode was laughable and disgusting as the media again covered itself in shame with its bigoted and deceitful behavior by its attacks on Saban at Alabama.
Do you think all that Deions accomplished so far wouldn't transfer over to Alabama? If anything having the crimson A on his chest would allow him to increase that productivity. Also, I'm seeing this over and over again, "lets wait and see", "It's too early to tell", "not enough data to go off of at this time"
Not a single person on tidefans has suggested Deion should be the coach next season, we're not clambering for Deion to take over as soon as possible. By the time Saban does retire, there will be enough of a sample to go through Deion's capabilities. It's like an echo chamber reading the same thing four other people have written, we all get it, and agree, it's not immediately time to go offer Coach Sanders the position, but no one is suggesting that anyways. However it's fun to imagine what Deion would be able to do with the resources and facilities that Alabama has built over the last decade and a half.
So when is it going to be Georgia's time to collapse?

It is possible that retirement could be after this year or next. Probably not, but reasonable to think it could be.
All that Deion has accomplished at this time is to use the portal well, put a credible team on the field primarily obtained from the portal and win 3 games. He was fortunate to beat a bad team last week. Those are significant things but there is much more that needs to be seen. We simply don't know yet. My guess is that he will do well in the long term, but IMO, it is premature to certify him. Many coaches have started off spectacularly well, and done far more than Deion, then fizzled. E.g., Tom Herman, Kevin Sumlin, Mac Campbell, that's just of recent vintage. And none of those coaches had made millions from a pro career. Is he going to be willing to put in the work year after year when he doesn't need the money or fame? Just one of many questions that need to be answered. We don't even know how NIL and the portal are going to look in the next few years or how that will affect him and others.
Georgia may not collapse (if a collapse is a 4 or 5 loss season) anytime soon, but their soft regular season road will likely be coming to a close after this year.
Honestly I think Alabama would hire a guy that many probably never considered. Yes everyone and their mother will want the job but Byrne will most likely will be more concerned with finding a Nate oats type guy for football than an already established guy. Just imo
Another issue to consider with Sanders is his health. Isn’t he a pretty bad Diabetic? Wasn’t there talk he might lose his foot back in the summer? At any rate, Toddrn has a right to his own opinion just as you do dWarriors88.

I think when he deals in X’s and O’s He is very sound but when he attempts to be tabloid he kinda slips off the wagon.
Yes he has some health issues. It wouldn't be surprising if that shortens his career quite a bit
I'm not a Dabo cheerleader, but I believe he is like Saban where he believes you work for what you get not something given to you,( nil) because of he's up bringing, if coach called it quits today Kiffen would not get on the bus back to Oxford if he was offered, as far as Sark, Texas has deep pockets but I believe if coach called him and told him he wanted him to have the job he leaves Texas, just my opinion
Just to take the conversation away from the usual guys. I'll repeat that info think any of these guys would be at least worth considering
Mike Norvell, Dan Lanning, Kalen DeBoer, Mike Elko.
Obviously Lanning especially needs more time to really show what he is as a HC but I think they all bring something to the table.

I wouldn’t be a fan of either Prime or Kiffin. Prime because of his body of work (more appropriately lack there of) and Kiffin for the same (issues/controversies in his tenures).
Prime had two successful years at Jackson State. He has won three games vs marginal opponents at Colorado so far (TCU isn’t close to the 2022 version and Nebraska has been a 20 year dumpster fire that Matt Ruhle is trying to extinguish). Yes Dion has done a remarkable job using the portal. But pump the brakes. At least let’s see how the season rolls out.
Kiffin is a great offensive mind but let’s also remember the guy, while funny and entertaining at times, has churned up crap everywhere he lands. Oakland Raiders, Tennessee, USC and FIU and Ole Miss. Let us also remember Saban had to cut him loose just before the National Title game (and while most lay the issue at trying to balance taking the job at FIU with his duties at Alabama, let’s just say it went beyond that). And while controversies have been fewer at his last two stops, I still see him having maturity issues.
I would prefer a coach that sees themselves as “the face of the program†not “as the programâ€Â. When you cross the line into the latter, then problems arise.
But then again, Byrne isn’t calling me to get my assessment. I’m just an old man whose thoughts on the matter do not account for much.

Yeah but Mack is coach “in name onlyâ€Â. He only coaches the Saturday afternoon games. He leaves at 4:00 pm every day to make it to the “early bird special†at the Chapel Hill Golden Corral. Loves him some yeast rolls and tapioca pudding…
