Play calling... Not what you think.

I dont give a crap if they drive the ball down in a wheel barrel! We won and thats the only stat I need. In college football, every game is a new season!

McElwain needs to figure out what he is trying to accomplish with the play calling. I am not going to blame McElroy for the poor performances. We did not get into the play action game. We did no misdirection out of the Wildcat, No reverses, no deep passes. All TN had to do was lineup and come straight at them. There was no creativity in the game planning. If this happens against LSU, we are in deep trouble.

So some of you are actually saying that Kiffin outcoached Saban? You guys are unbelievable. Didn't Bama win? Aren't we 8-0? Didn't UT just come off a bye week? Some of you people amaze me at how quick you are to point fingers.
I'm relieved and happy with the win. Alabama is 8-0 and still on a collision course with UF and the BCSCG. I am afraid, however, that if the offense doesn't have more output against LSU, we won't reach 9-0. That said, I believe the coaches and players are just as aware of it as I am and are better qualified to decide what to do about it.

I don't know, 12-3 would still have been pretty close. Don't get me wrong, the defense is playing great. But I think Jess hit the nail on the head in his article. The offense is woefully inconsistent and so is the play calling.

12-3 would be a 2 score win please tell me we will win the rest of our games by 9 points. I have never said I was satisfied with the score but am satisfied with the win. I think we can and need to do better on offense especially in the red zone. I'm pretty sure the members of tidefans aren't the only ones aware of it. I'm a simple man who tries to put things into simple words that are easy to understand.

There are a multitude of reasons of why BAMA nearly lost this game, of which the playcalling was one. At the end there was only one reason we won and he doesn't play on offense.

I tend to agree with JessN.

At this point, I would take a 1 point win in every remaining game.

Just win baby, just win.

With that being said, I think it is VERY coincidental that BOTH Florida AND Alabama are experiencing some very simple play calling issues.

Is this a season long chess match between the two perhaps? I dunno, but ONE thing is for certain, neither fanbase is anywhere near happy about the perceived lack of imagination in Offensive play calling. In fact both fanbases consider the playcalling to be OFFENSIVE ( and that is putting it mildly )

Perhaps this is due to sporadic coverage of the spread. Perhaps it is due to the perception that "We had better put more points on the board against future opponents in order to win"

Either way, Florida and Alabama fans are both griping about wins.

Even Saban criticized the play calling.
WANTED::::::: Two "fly-on-the-wall" tickets.......... I'd go by myself, but nobody would believe me. Simply put(for Bayoutider), it's a two-man problem that's a little out of kilter and escalating. The bye will allow the staff enough time to sort, un-learn, and redirect. What an opportunity to hear CNS motivational speeches one-on-one!

I laughed at Spurrier in the Carolina game for trying the fade/jumpball over and over when it just wasn't working.
against utk, Bama's playcalling was just as stupid.

Me too. I was relieved when Spurrier kept trying to run the fade/jumpball. That play rarely works. It hasn't paid dividends forus this year that's for sure.

I don't think it's so much that we're being outcoached as it is that we're being outexecuted, We're simply making too dang many mistakes.

The fiasco at the end of the 1st half was inexcuseable, but even then, we would have been OK if we simply executed,

We're lucky that we have Coach Saban to set things right and I'm betting that it's gonna get his full attention for the next 2 weeks.

In my opinion the playcalling the main things that kept Tenn. in the game. We should have had at least one touchdown. I mean some of those calls were just unacceptable. How CJM can be so blind to what all the fans see is an enigma. CNS really needs to give him a talkin'-to.

McElroy still isn't playing as great as earlier, though not as badly as the USC game. So many times I watched him not take his eyes off a single receiver the entire play. In almost every incomplete pass there was another receiver wide open.

The Saban/Fisher combo at LSU had this tendancy to throw when they needed to run.
Saban has ways to make the bad play calling equal out,
I doubt Fisher will ever be back at the top.

2nd &2 at the 5, first down possible at tne 3,
#22 is yo hoss, not #8!
#22 has one lost fumble in all his carries,
#8 has a multitude of big drops!
#22 has carried the load,
why put in on a struggling #12?
you even have the "gimmick" of #62 at fullback.

Playcalling stopped Bama as much as the utk D did!
utk never constistantly stopped the "bobcat" combo of #22 & #3,
we just took it away from ourselves.

I laughed at Spurrier in the Carolina game for trying the fade/jumpball over and over when it just wasn't working.

I agree ThunderZ, but I know we will correct it during the off week. It almost cost us the game and the title run.. Roll on Tide, Roll on...:BigA:

We have had several games now with questionable play-calling, especially in the red-zone. Did we even line up in the Pistol at all in the UT game? Where's the PA pass?

Furthermore, our O-line gave McElroy some of the better pass-blocking they've given him this season, and McElroy threw a LOT of balls right into the HANDS of our WRs. We had waaaaay to many drops.

The drop-off passes McElroy had to Upchurch behind the first down line looked like designed plays. Especially the first one, on that one, it looked like Julio was already prepping for blocking, before McElroy released the ball.

And finally, our deep pass was so non-existant. McElroy looked damn fine to me on both his footwork and his throws. I don't know if McElwain has lost that much confidence in our QB or if he was just that afraid of Monte Kiffin... but that short-passing game just plays into the defense's hands. You're going to get some of those short-passes, but in the long-run, you're very unlikely to convert a whole fields worth of first-downs to get those TDs. And you're especially not going to convert them if we're not catching the ball.
