Thought it was a great game.

One question and I've only seen us play a couple of times:

Do we EVER put pressure on the ball full court? I sort of felt with 4 min. left and us up by 3 that we should have brought some pressure in the backcourt either 3/4 or whole. Make them make the plays. Instead we sat back at the top of the key.

Just my 2 cents!

I just watched the end again, if we would have run a full court man to man on the last play, we could have really slowed them up.

No depth = tired players with 4 minutes to go

Devil's Advocate:

We were tired anyway, let it all hang out and force some mistakes. I'll trade 4 points in easy baskets for 8 points off of turnovers any day of the week! We were smokin' off of the break. Let's keep pressure on the ball and make them play 94 ft!

I guess just a philosophical difference.

Thats where me miss a guy with the defensive intensity of Jean Felix.

Cant complain about the players effort tonight. They were taking the ball out of the net quickly and pushing the ball as opposed to the usual sulk about a made basket and proceed to run a high post offense.

Oh yeah! I loved the way the players played. Great intensity.

I thought the officials negatively impacted the game, for both sides.

But, we had a chance to win and didn't do it.

This game showed we have a bright future ahead, and who knows, maybe Hollinger can develop into a decent SEC pg.

Hollenger had career points because he took sooooooo many shots. He'd get the ball past halfcourt and then just decide to shoot a 3 make some and miss more.
With 15 seconds to go and 2 timeouts and absolutely no numbers at all decides hey we're down 2 and they have been blocking my shot all night long i'll just drive the ball one more time BOOM blocked....CMG should have seen that coming called a timeout and ran a play.

too many turnovers tonight
UMASS had an 8 minute spell where they didnt make a basket and our lead was like 5:eek:
CMG good recruiter horrible X & O's

Glad the nightmare is over and now i get to watch real hoops for a change!

Although we lost, it was an exciting and enjoyable game to watch from beginning to end. We haven't looked that good (especially on the road) in months.

The team played as a team for the most part. They gave 100% effort and played with energy and purpose for the entire game. Mistakes I can take but lack of effort drive me insane. The overall team defense was better although it is not at the level it needs to be win road games and to put teams away. Many of the returning players need to work on their defensive skills over the off-season. There will nights when you just can't hit a shot but a good defensive effort will keep you in the game and eventually get you some easy baskets. I thought the flow of the offense was much improved tonight. Most experts would argue that half-court offenses minimize turnovers; however, I don't think that is the case for this team. For the first time in a long while, it looked as if the team was playing at their natural pace and enjoying themselves. I even saw an asst. coach showing MT what he should have done to help out his teammate after we turned the ball over. More of this needs to take place.

BH played an excellent game. Usually, it seems like he is out-running his dribble which leads to turnovers but that only happened a few times tonight. Yes, he made a few poor shooting decisions but that is to be expected of a sophomore playing in his first complete game. Heck, many of the so called "superstars" in the NBA make the same mistakes and most have been in the league for more that two years. I think he is more comfortable with the up-tempo style offense because it best utilizes his speed while putting the defender at a disadvantage while making him work on both ends of the court. This game sould boost BH's confidence since he has shown that he can run the offense. I liked his agressiveness on offense; he was not afraid to go inside if he had a lane. Many will say that BH shouldn't go inside because of his height. Even though he may get his shot blocked 5 out of 10 times, the other 5 times he will either make the shot and/or get the foul call. I also believe that if a player is tentative in one part of his game; he will become tentative in the other areas of his game. BH should work on a tear-drop type lay-up that will go above the defenders hands to improve his inside game during the off-season.

Riley also had a good game tonight. He appeared to be in better position on defense. I realized that his defensive game is not that strong but it has improved from the beginning of the season. He should look as his defensive positioning and the results from tonight's game and compare it to other games during the year where he was totally out of position and got dogged. MR also needs to work on improving his inside game. He needs practice going stronger to the basket and using the glass more. That will reduce the number of missed lapups and will make defenders respect all aspects of his game.

RH has so much potential but he has got to start using his size to his advantage. He has too much muscle to be a finess player in the post. He needs to work on banging against opposing players down in the paint. Not fouling but to establish his position down low and stand his ground (down let the opposing team move him around so much). With the power that he has, his shots should always make it up to the rim. Anytime he is within two feet of the basket, he should dunk the ball instead of trying soft layups and 2-3 ft jumpers. That way he will get the "and one" instead of trying to make two free-throws. He also needs to work on passing out of the double team because that what teams are doing to do to him next year.

This game should go a long way in building the confidence of the players returning next season. The fact that they took a good team to overtime on the road and was in a position to win without RS showed what can happen if each player gives his best effort. Things had been going so bad for this team that I don't think many of the players thought they could be competitive, let alone win without RS. I saw many positives in this game that can be built on for next season.

Overall, a better performance than in some previous games. Maybe they sensed this was probably their last game of the year and they had nothing else to lose. But many of the mistakes in this game were continual repeats of the same mistakes from games (and seasons) past. The same tired old offense that no longer works with the physical nature of the players that we have on the floor. The same tired old defense that is dominated by other teams who have players with less athletic ability than ours. The same lack of ball control that results in way too many turnovers.
In short, we are not making progress with our team. They are not improving, nor have they been improving for the past few years. Unfortunately, next year's team is going to be the same as this year's team because this type of offense and defense are all CMG knows so that's all he teaches. Kind of like a farmer that doesn't know anything about crop rotation, so he plants the same seeds in the same field year, after year, after year, and each year his crop yields are less, and less, and less.
I'm just saddened that we are probably going to have to watch this same sad lack of performance again next year, and probably the year after that. That will continue until Mal Moore retires and his replacement sees the problem and decides to fix it.
So now basketball is over, for the Tide anyway, and we're one day closer to football.
An ancient Chinese proverb says that when you get to the last page, close the book. See you on the other boards.

Hollenger had career points because he took sooooooo many shots. He'd get the ball past halfcourt and then just decide to shoot a 3 make some and miss more.

Actually, Hollinger was 3 for 7 on 3 pointers which is quite good and 6 for 14 overall from the field. He was also 4 for 4 from the stripe. Besides a few unnecessary throwaways, he played a great game.

Stupid mistakes are what killed us. Two possessions in a row, down by one, with less than two minutes, Gee throws the ball or dribbles the ball away. The pass he tried to make to JD was terrible. It seems that Gee has brain freeze in close ball games. Then in OT, Tubbs tries to dribble through traffic. He has not done that all year and in the last game of the year he decides to do it.

That being said, I liked the pace at which we played on offense. It was great to see the guys get out and run. I think we need to do that on defense as well. If we had pressed at the end of the game it would have made them have to take a tougher shot than what they hit to win it.

With the athletes we have coming in next year, and if Steele is healthy, we ought to be a run and gun type team, not a high post team (which we aren't anyway).

Hopefully next year will end much better than this year did.

You want him to shoot 7 3's...not me
half of those he just got across halfcourt and before letting any offense set up or moving the ball around he just decided to throw it up

BAMABEN dont forget the time Richard brought the ball up on a fast break and turned it over when he tried to make a pass i think....

BHoll is a specialist, not a point guard. I admire his effort last night, though.

He's suppose to help with the press break and hit wide open shots, not be a scorer.

It would kinda be like an NBA team expecting Damon Jones to lead their team to victory...

Next year will be the same as this year and the past nine years. These guys don't get the coaching to play the game to win. They look lost and confused most of the time. Compare our play to UMASS. They had a game plan, know the finer points of the game, how to attack and play defense, work the clock, etc. How many times has Gotfried "said we must learn from this--and we played hard but were one play short?" Time to get a new teacher. Maybe Ford from UMASS. He showed that he knows the game of BB and how it should be played and how to teach the game to his team. We never had a chance and should not have been there. Playing hard is necessary but so is playing with a purpose. Look for the same next year.

We fixed football, now it's time to fix BB. I am tired of being the doormat of conference. Fl is on a roll in its athletic program and is committed to winning in every sport. Bama is doing ok in a few sports but is lagging in BB. We may need to evaluate the baseball program too.

The difference between losing and winning is commitment to winning and providing all of the ingredients needed to win. We haven't reached that point at Bama and it is time we did.

I should have mentioned that. That was awful. I don't know what in the world he was trying to do. All he had to do was make a simple bounce pass and that guy had a dunk. I am sure CMG wanted to go through the roof after that.
