Keep bringing it - and make time stand still in that 11th hour until Battle runs out the clock on Grant. In football terms, the Tide needs a turnover in the worst way.
One of things that somewhat concerned me when we hired Bill Battle: While a tremendously successful businessman, I was wondering what he would do or how he would react when faced with a difficult matter concerning coaches. I do seem to recall that when he was the UT head coach and was fired, CBB was very bitter because he felt he wasn't given a fair shake to turn the football program around. I wonder if that plays any into his decision to "go to the mat" for Grant in this situation?
Not saying this from a Bama fan's point of view against Auburn, but defeating Miss. St., TAMU, and LSU is not that great a feat. That's not exactly "murder's row". After UK the SEC is...well...mediocre.
That is good news but if Battle is this clueless then obviously he has no plan in place and to scramble to try and get a new coach at this point concerns me greatly.
It's the default decision and I think we've already taken it. I've written my half page email to him, not that it'll do any good, but he had to at least read it because of our family connections. When he and I were in school, basketball occupied a position far inferior to football. Before anyone else says it, I understand that's still the situation. I know that it's not that different today, except that it is. When I was a freshman, Lambert was so badly off for players, he started scouting the intramural leagues for players. He ended up signing three guys from NYC, all of whom turned out to be crooks - point shavers. One went to prison later. Don't know about the other two. However, that's how bad it was. I don't know how much of an influence that had over Battle or if his interest in basketball increased after leaving there...If he hasn't planned on firing him, then he has no plan in place to find a new coach. No looking over who us out there, no sending out feelers to see who might be interested, no nothing.
So at this point we might as well keep him.

I'll say this... If Grant is gone... and we hire a coach and we stink the joint up next year... does this makes us look good or bad? It speaks a lot about the fans, booster and the expectations that comes with the program... all of sudden, the job is no longer attractive.... Like My mama said.. be careful of what you wish for, sometime things isn't always what it seems to be, we don't always know the whole story...
Grant has been treated better than he deserves from a W-L perspective. Most coaches will see a job where they are given 6 years to perform as a positive. They will see an enticing salary and a school patient enough to give them time to succeed. The flip side is that if we have no plan in place we could end up with a less than attractive candidate pool. But the fact is if there is not a change, we've given up and given Auburn the state by default.
As a side note, I told my brother in Cincy that we were going to keep him and his quote was "are the athletic department officials really that stupid?"
His words not mine. FWIW, I think Battle is a smart man. He is looking at it from the perspective of a man who had not been to basketball game until last year so his "base line" perception of the program is that small crowds and a quiet arena are normal. My perception is that Alabama is a program waiting to explode. The students and fans would easily sell out Coleman with a good team who give them something to cheer about. The students and fans showed up in droves early in Grant's tenure at Alabama. Now barely 250 students come to games and that includes the pep band. We just need the right person to inject to positive energy into the program. Also, I think that Grant is very popular among the athletic department itself. I'm sure he is a nice guy, but so was Shula.I don't think it's about being "smart or stupid", it's about a personality type. Coach Battle knows the pressures of that spot and probably is having some misgivings about letting a member of the fraternity go.
It's hard to view the current state of affairs regarding Bama hoops. Self inflicted wounds much like we saw so much of with the football program for many years. If we have to stick with Grant, well that's an unsatisfactory battle plan.
