With all the variety in the different states response I wonder of we could see conference only play? I haven't read all the responses here , so I don't know if its been discussed.

I doubt it, unless you are saying that in a shortened season it comes to that. But if there is a season, I expect to see a playoff. Not as sure about bowl games as their entire purpose is bringing people into those cities.

I was thinking possibly the NCAA allows football with or without fans, but some states opt out anyway. It would probably be a shortened season.
I think that we could see any number of things, but the next 2 months are critical to us having any options at all. South Korea reported zero new cases yesterday, so it is possible to get on the other side of this. I am just not sure that the American people have the will to get there.

South Korea actually shut down and didn't just say they did. We have too many stubborn folks that refuse to listen, so we will end up with no sports for a year.

It could indeed happen, particularly if we see cases and deaths ramping up in August ( or before ). That would coincide with seeing results from all the "relaxing " of lock downs that`s beginning.

That's all but guaranteed without the testing the experts tell us we need now so it will be the states getting into a rush that derail things rather than those being more cautious.

There is no way companies and sponsors are going to pay normal rates for games broadcast for a "modified season". There's just so many moving parts to consider when thinking about it.
If the season is held with no fans inside of the stadium...and television is the only way that the sports-starved population is able to experience it...viewership will be monumental...advertising rates will explode...and conferences will receive a larger cut to distribute to their member schools (which will offset the lost revenue from empty stadiums)...

Hopefully that would be the case. However, I'd like to know the advertising revenue made during the NFL draft last week. There was a record in viewership numbers but when I watched I really didn't see a lot of "normal" advertisements going on. I saw a lot of ESPN's own advertising in spots that in normal conditions would have been a commercial for a national company other than ESPN.

P.S.- Now that I think about it. I'm not so sure companies would be willing to pay even normal rates much less higher rates. Just from the simple fact of their own revenue streams being impacted due to the pandemic, and depending on budget adjustments (which probably include but definitely not limited to) advertising spending. You have to think that even though a lot of people would be watching, doesn't mean a lot of people are in a position of buying. The economic impact of COVID-19 on people's pocket book and discretionary income has only begun to set in and will probably last well beyond any football season we may or may not have. But that's just my line of thinking.

Weren't they running the draft as a sort-of covid-19 telethon? If that's the case, it would have been in their best interest to interrupt it with as few outside advertisements as possible (so they wouldn't have to turn off their bottom ticker which was showing the donation bits)
