What I know you need to throw short quick passes is "timing" and "accuracy." A certain level of arm strength is needed, but that's not the issue with Jalen. The other two are IMO.

I know you know I'm not trying to argue with you about this, I just wanted to point out something. Since when he had issues with short quick throws?

And if that is happening on a lot of plays, everybody who's ever played on a "team sport" understands why there has been some apparent unrest in the locker room.

There's a reason Jordan, Kobe and Lebron couldn't win championships until they had players around them that made the "team" a threat.

Valid point, but using them wasn't good example. Even through he had Pippen, and supporting casts, he still took over the game. Kobe was the same way. Lebron had no help for long time, but the last three finals.. he disappeared a lot.

But if opposing defenses have gotten the blueprint on how to keep Jalen from getting those yards with his legs, the team won't succeed. If he "chooses" that, especially when it's obvious defenses are scheming against it, that's either selfish or shows lack of confidence. Either way, the team won't succeed following that plan. Playmakers are all over the field and it's Jalen's role to get the ball to those playmakers. Now, if called plays are for just 1 playmaker, that's on the OC. If it's rpo, multiple routes or reads, then Jalen has to adjust. I've been a Jalen fan since day one and hope he does.

They already are doing that by now. They know on RPO, he'll keep the ball 90 percent of the time. Many times RBs saw the open field. But, I agree with you.

Go watch the first half of the UT game and the accuracy issues are pretty noticeable on some of the wide receiver screen plays.

Ironically, this is the game we started to see him throw more to the middle of the field, but I'm afraid that was simply a result of some terrible UT defense.

As an offense we really struggled against UT in the first half. I just watched the game again a few days ago and it was painfully obvious...and UT was terrible!

A tiny bit off topic, but I saw this same chart on Kelly Bryant the other day. It's very interesting how similar their charts are. & to be honest, Jalen's chart may even be just a tad bit better.

CFB Filmroom removes throwaways and tipped passes, so the total number is not the same number you'll see on ESPN or elsewhere.

Let's look at the location of his throws:

20+ yards: 17% of passes
10-19 yards: 25% of passes
0-9 yards: 37% of passes
Behind LOS: 21% of passes

Left side of the field: 34% of the passes beyond LOS
Middle of the field: 23% of the passes beyond LOS
Right side of the field: 43% of the passes beyond LOS

So it looks like he's throwing a bunch of short passes into the flats. That's not what many are saying he needs to do to help the offense - throw where the LBs were.

Nobody is defending it because we've basically spent the last two years acting like it doesn't exist for the vast majority of the games.

Red is bottom 25th percentile. We struggle throwing 0-9 yard passes toward the sideline, especially to the left side.

The fact we've only thrown 16 passes in the 10-19 yard range in the middle of the field all year long is unbelievably bad!

No wonder we struggle on 3rd and long if we are practically ignoring the middle of the field.

And the fact this doesn't include throw aways is leaving off a big thing that, unfortunately, happens a lot.

That was what made the AU game so hard to watch. The opposition has it down so pat they made it look easy...

The chart makes one thing very clear - Jalen has footwork problems. When you are that much better from the center to the right side of the field as a right handed QB, it starts and ends with footwork. He is not squaring up his body and stepping into passes. His arm strength makes up for it on throws to the center and right, but cannot do so when throwing across his body.

Honestly, if I were Daboll and saw this chart (specifically the lack of improvement from last season to the left), I would only run decoy routes on the left side of the field. I would forbid Jalen from scrambling left or passing left. Make him fix it in the off-season.

And any dc worth his weight knows this too and will bring all pressure from offense's right side. Make jh scramble to the side he doesn't throw well to...then, have a defender account for his legs. Soooooo, jh either has to get rid of the ball faster or have the confidence to STEP UP into the pocket to make the throw.

Show me his passing chart vs LSU, Auburn, and MSU (not a good defense) and throw in 2 more of the better SEC defenses we played . Hard to do with the SEC west having a down year. I'll go off that chart...

I don't have a chart that helps, but MSU's defense is right up there with LSU's defense - better in most stats. And MSU is ranked higher than both in total defense (#10 in the country).

ETA - Statistically, MSU is better than both Auburn and LSU defensively.

Was it you or someone else that said in another thread that MSU's secondary wasn't very good? Their front 7, yes.

I wasn't impressed by their secondary.
FWIW, I thought Jalen had one of his best games as a member of the Tide against LSU this year.
