I'm not sure if this is a timing thing, but no doubt, it HAD to have an impact on his final decision (even though he said he made his decision 2 years ago).
You look at LSU's entire team and only the QB is guaranteed to not be back next year. But looking at their defensive backfield, every one of them is an underclassman. The only seniors are Ron Brooks and Brandon Taylor. Mo Claiborne could (and should) leave early after this season. But according to them, the best athlete on their team is a 6-3 195 lb freshman CB who's redshirting this year. So he can step right in. Look everywhere else. Mathie, Simon, Loston, Reid are all sophomores.
From our side, Mark Barron is gone. Will Lowery is gone. Barring a sudden change of heart, Robert Lester is gone. Phelon Jones is gone. Dre Kirkpatrick is gone (forget about him coming back. I personally think he needs to stay one more year, but the man has mouths to feed and he's had a 1st round grade since last year. He's gone). DeQuan Menzie is gone.
Now. HaHa Clinton-Dix is talented as all get out, but has limited experience. Same with Nick Perry and Jarrick Williams. Same with John Fulton.
So that leaves Dee Milliner and Vinnie Sunseri as the only returning defensive backs with extensive playing time (and with Will Lowery out, expect to see a lot of Vinnie in the BCSCG).
Now..Landon can step right in and compete for immediate playing time. Particularly at the Star position. I'm looking forward to big things and hope to see him here soon.
