Saban interviews 3 Bama coaches

Does that mean that Kines was not interviewed? If so --->

Since Steele is both the DC and LB coach, Kines was not possibly going to be in the mix... and probably did not want to go through an interview process if he knew for certain that he wouldn't be a true candidate. Word seems to be that he may have a spot in the program in a non-field capacity.

My guess is these ARE "courtesy" interviews. I think it shows some level of class, too, by Coach Saban to at least give these guys a fair hearing and hear them out, and allow them to at least "apply" for the jobs on the new staff, if even he has no intention of hiring them. If nothing else, by talking with them one on one he will also be able to identify existing problems within the program so that they can be addressed. wouldn't be surprised at all if he took A LOT of notes.

I would guess Coach Shula?

Since the position coach should have more direct contact with the player than anyother coach, the first responsibility (aside from the player himselft) should be his. He should be able to note when his players are getting beat and make a determinations as to why; Skill level, technique, strength and conditioning and he should be the guy to initially address corrective measure. JMHO.

If Steele is going to coach LBs, why does Travis Jones keep getting mentioned as a possible LB coach?

If we're going to be running some version of the 3-4, you'll probably have an ILB coach and an OLB coach, like we did in 1992 (Jeff Rouzie, Ellis Johnson). But you'll only have one DL coach, opposed to the two we had this year (Turner for DEs, Wyatt for DTs).

BR, missed your question above. I'd love to see Freddie as the TE coach. There have been a lot of reports that he thought he was coming in that capacity, but no news yet...

I understand your frustration, but, you must remember that Saban is going to have a heavy hand in the defense. Perhaps he didn't feel that his schemes and Kines schemes would really work well together. This surely doesn't mean that he doesn't respect him.

Conelly didnt think S&C was that important so he didn't force players under him to participate in all the S&C. Shula didn't back up the S&C coach and make Conelly get the players under him in the gym. The blame lies somewhere between Conelly not sending his players and Shula not backing up the S&C coach. Now I challenge anyone to tell me how that is the fault of the S&C coach. He can't kidnap the players and force them to work he can only work with those who show up and report to the boss who isn't working out.

Not during offseason workouts. The coaches cant be in there except the S&C coach. It was Shula's responsibility to do things to make players show up for voluntary workouts. Coach Fran told them that workouts are voluntary but so is playing time... things like this get players going.

Shula didnt stress S&C. I dont think he even bothered with it period. The position coaches can bench the ones that are out of shape, but Coach Connelly didnt exactly have that luxury since Shula wanted to RS all the incoming OL ('cept one, obviously). He didnt exactly do alot with what he had either, but I dont think S&C is the position coaches' responsibility. That falls on the Head Coach and the S&C coach.

Did Shula even keep a count on who showed up Bayou? I'm interested in knowing these kind of things.

Like I said. The first line coaching responsibility is his. How can you call yourself a coach if you won't or can't see that your players are not performing at least in part because of their condition. Obviously, Shula shares in this responsibility as in he should have noticed the same things and insisted that the position coach work with the S&C to correct the problem.

As in the case of many of these coaching problems, it would be nice to here something from the otherside especially from Shula. Doubt that we will of course.

I agree that Kines probably shouldn't be in the defensive mix, but I'd like to see him get some position. Rich mentioned an office job in the AD. Hopefully this will happen.

Didn't Kines said his next job after Alabama would be as a Wal-Mart greeter? If he wants that job, he might be great manning the door to the MMM Athletic Facility.
