Re: New Discussion Thread on Possible Coaching Changes...

Disagree on Kirby. If CNS leaves I prefer they bring in somebody with a proven body of work as a head coach. Kirby may very well be the next Nick Saban....but he may also very well be the next Will Muschamp, Derek Dooley, etc.

or the next D'Antonio, Fisher........

Agree 100%. Kirby may be a great head coach right off the bat but odds are he will need time to learn on the job and I would prefer an experienced, proven head coach.

Re: New Discussion Thread on Possible Coaching Changes...

Then again, I didn't see Bama losing to the barn so what do I know....
We didn't lose to the barn, we just didn't run out of time... in time.

Re: New Discussion Thread on Possible Coaching Changes...

Correct, but the point is we'd be taking a chance, maybe even a big chance. I love what Kirby Smart has done here, but I sincerely hope we're not in the position to have to take chances on our next coach, which is hopefully not anytime soon.

Re: New Discussion Thread on Possible Coaching Changes...

I don't know. I think Kirby has earned a shot. He has been loyal to us.
If Saban retires, or goes to the NFL, I think Kirby has earned strong consideration. But, if Saban goes to Texas? That's different because Kirby's agent would have orchestrated it, and who ever is going head-to-head with Saban needs to have the resume to do so.

Re: New Discussion Thread on Possible Coaching Changes...

This LHN stuff does nothing to help win games.

I thought that rumor floating around about CNS getting a share of the LHN was hilarious. It would have been more believable if it said "CNS is getting X dollars, plus a set of steak knives". 1% of nothing is still nothing.
I thought that was a ploy by them to get someone to help pay for the losses. Not sure if it was the Austin guy or who it was that asked whether or not that was even theirs to give away - it is majority owned by ESPN.

Re: New Discussion Thread on Possible Coaching Changes...

Hi. Greetings Tidefans. Believe it or not I'm a friendly Barner, Awburner, etc. I appreciate the discussions on this site and I understand angst among the group. CNS is an unbelievable coach and he has done so much for UA. I hope he stays right where he is and continues to make the SEC th best conference in the nation. He makes us all want to do better. .....no worries. It's all just speculation.

It's not a knock on Kirby, who has been a fine assistant and undoubtedly an asset for the program. But a school like Alabama with its resources, facilities and tradition doesn't have - or need - to take chances on unproven commodities. It worked out miserably the last two times we tried it (Dubose and Shula). I get that a lot of folks think Kirby would be our best shot to "maintain the status quo" that has been attained under Saban. In my opinion, that status quo goes out the window the minute Saban parts ways with the University. I think he's so far ahead of the rest of the profession that no one man could even attempt to replicate what he's accomplished the same exact way he accomplished it, especially not a career assistant. Given that, I think we make a clean break and bring in the strongest experienced head coach we can find. If that means a departure from Saban's methodology, then so be it. My short list would be pretty similar to Texas' short list: Jimbo Fisher, David Shaw, the Harbaugh brothers. There would be a few others I would consider quality hires.

All that said, I certainly hope he stays.

Tom Osbourn had just been an assistant at Nebraska.

Colin Cowherd tweeted:

"Was told by a great source (hopefully most are) Saban is still deciding at this hour. Weighing both sides carefully."

I can't blame him for weighing it out if this is true.

Re: New Discussion Thread on Possible Coaching Changes...

Saban will get a new contract with Bama...it will be in the 10 mil range PLUS incentives. We will revisit this post later.

A little comedic relief:

He tweeted this first: "Saban is such a tireless worker. It was just announced he will take both jobs."

Are either tweets real or both jokes?
