Re: New Discussion Thread on Possible Coaching Changes...
To be fair, money entices a majority of people. It's a rare breed this day in age that won't switch jobs for a 30% raise. Any job, not just college football. How many of you would stay at your current position if you received an offer for far more than your currently salary? I love my job but I would certainly consider it.
I agree with this totally, but it was clear that Alabama wasn't going to be outbid for Saban. There's no doubt in anybody's mind that if Saban had told our AD that Texas had offered $10M, and he would leave if we didn't get that here, he would have gotten it.
The Texas fans, as well as our rivals, have always liked to say that Saban is hired gun and will go to highest bidder, but they forget (or never bothered to acknowledge) that Saban took a pay cut to come here from the Dolphins. Wayne Huizenga did not want Saban to leave, but Saban was not happy in the NFL. He was making $4.5M and year and came to Alabama for $4M.
Saban is at the point in his career where the situation is more important to him than making a little more money somewhere else. Saban has everything he could possibly need to be in contention for NC's every single year at a place where college football is the undisputed king. I know Texas fans are proud of UT, but no state in this country takes college football more seriously than the state of Alabama. The vast majority of people here care little for the NFL, basketball (college or pro), nor is this a baseball state. HS football is huge in Texas, but for the most-part, the biggest interest in HS football here is limited to teams that happen to have players that are going to Bama or AU. There are people here that will drive to see player's games that are committed to their school, but won't go to a single HS game in their own hometown.
You have admitted that Texans are confident/arrogant about a lot of things, and I appreciate your honesty about that. On the other side of it, Alabama fans as just confident/arrogant about Alabama football. We feel that we are the kings of college football and that everybody's school is below us in our opinion, if we are being honest about it. There's really no wonder why Bama and Texas fans butt heads! -lol
You seem like a good dude, and I'm glad you are around. I hope you stick around.
