Re: New Discussion Thread on Possible Coaching Changes...

I just saw where Malzahn reiterated his commitment to Awbun....

Texas is like that nice looking girl we've all known - she's nice looking and SHOULD be able to date whoever she chooses, but she doesn't have enough HEALTHY respect for herself, she's a total mess - a total train wreck with her life and she's treated nice guys with disrespect. She's burned enough bridges for all to see and knows that nice, handsome guys don't want to take a chance on her and she's to the point where she's just throwing herself at ANYONE...but anyone with an ounce of desirability isn't interested.

That's Texas right now.
I'd say that's a fairly gentle way to put it, and I agree with the sentiment.

But guys might use her to get what they want. And then they distance themselves from her after they get it.

What else was Malzahn supposed to say? Especially right before a championship game. With the right money...Malzahn would go to Texas. Folks on this board may not like Texas, but it IS one of the very best coaching jobs.

You could be right. I still haven't decided whether he has enough sense to stay away from that train wreck or the money could lure him away.

She can't be all that if the most popular boy in school turned her down.

Don't get me wrong. I like Kevin Sumlin's career projection. He's been wildly successful in his young career. He's going to prove himself as something more than just the guy who inherited Johnny Manziel. Still, he ascended into a pay grade greater than coaches who have won multiple conference titles and at least one national title. He has neither.

TAMU greatly overpaid the guy but perhaps they're high on him like me.
If you have ever seen the movie "A Beautiful Mind" you would have known that you have perfectly described the theory of Governing Dynamics...

I just do not see Malzahn jumping ship after one hugely successful season, but like Bill said it is unlikely his stock will ever be higher.
I will give him credit for 2010 as well. He was calling the shots more than Chizik. Chiz was nothing more than a mouthpiece figurehead.

I don't either, but mostly because of the timing. If Texas is willing to wait, they are far more likely to focus on the other head coach in that game. Gus has a great offensive mind, but his defenses are average. Fisher builds well rounded teams in all phases of the game.

First, we all know that part of the barn's win this year was coaching and I think CNS would admit, Gus is up to the task. Long term, I think CNS whips him 7 out of 10 but there will be some sleepless nights during IB week as long as CGM is down there.

Putting myself in Gus' shoes for a moment, if I had a choice between living in Lee County (otherwise known as purgatory), being the eternal little brother (no matter how many games I win) and faced with the likelihood of going 3 for 10 against CNS forever ... or ... being the overnight King of Texas, which is truly one of the top 5 coaching jobs in the country ... being set for life financially from day one, being able to recruit in my sleep instead of watching Saban field nearly every recruit I offered and having a fan base perfectly happy with a winning season (or so it seems with their tolerance of Mack) ... the only thing that would beat me to the Austin city limits would be the headlights on my car.

*uburn will NEVER be a storied program except for their occasional bit part in our story. He has to know that will never change.

If Texas is truly his "dream job" then he will take it if offered.
With all the talent we have here, that is custom made to his system, both sides should have some interest. Add to that the allure (if he wins) of "He won a championship, his first year at *U." That might be too hard for the shorthorns to resist.

Then we can put the barners on suicide watch!

I think Gus is a one trick pony. Once the league figures out how to defend his system(and they will), he'll be done in the SEC. But I do think his stock will never be higher and if UTw is his dream job, he'd be a fool not to take it. He will be in a league that plays zero defense and they all run varitaions of the spread for the most part. He'll be able to have more long term success there. In the SEC, he will have to change his offensive philosophy at some point, and I don't think he is capable of changing his entire system. He would have to recruit a different kind of player and it would take years to get the kind of personnel he needs to be successful. Plus we all know there is a low tolerance for down years in Boogville.

As for Fisher, I don't think he will take it because FSU will do everything they can to keep him and Florida is at least equal to Texas in terms of talent. He has no real roots there while Gus is a native Texan. Fisher would have to build a network while Gus is much more familiar with Texas since he once recruited there for Arky.

If the $$$ are right FSU can't hold a match financially. The facilities at Texas are far more superior.
