I am not a doctor, but I am a veteran paramedic and EMT instructor. The injury suffered by Tebow is called a coup / counter coup (pronounced coo counter coo.) injury. This is caused by the violent snap of his head forward and then almost instantly backwards. Remember your brain sits in a vat ( your skull) of liquid ( cerbal spinal fluid). I will explain it to you the same that I do when I am teaching my EMT basic studnets about head injuries.
When you are in a wreck there are three collions as far as your body is concerned. Picture a car v/s tree wreck
1. Car hits tree.

2. Driver's body hits inside of car

3. Driver's Organs hit inside of drivers body.

This is what Tims Brain did, but then it had a fourth collsion.

4. After the brain slammed into the front of his skull it "sloshed back" and hit the rear ( ocipital region) of his skull.

These innjuries are usually much worse than a normal concussion.

IMO at least one Neurologist and one Nuerosurgeon should consult prior to Tm taking the field again. Remeebr these are diffrent types of doctors.

Would you want to be the one who signs off on him being able to paly? Would you want to be the one who says "no."?

Oh nd Fl shopuld be able to handle LSU without Tim.

I have read the official NCAA documents, including their Sports Medicine Handbook and a study of Concussions. The net, every incident and Return to Play decision should be made independantly by the team doctor. Here is an excerpt:
Once an athlete is completely asymptomatic, the return-to-play progression should occur in a step-wise fashion with gradual increments in physical exertion and risk of contact. After a period of remaining asymptomatic, the first step is an “exertional challenge” in which the athlete exercises for 15 to 20 minutes in an activity such as biking or running in which he/she increases his/her heartrate and breaks a sweat. If he/she does not experience any symptoms, this can be followed by a steady increase in exertion, followed by return-tosport-specific activities that do not put the athlete at risk for contact. Examples include dribblinga ball or shooting, stickwork or passing, or other agilities. This allows the athlete to return to the practice setting, albeit in a limited role. Finally, the athlete can be progressed to practice activitieswith limited contact and finally full contact. How quickly one moves through this progression remains controversial.

I'd have to rely on the doc's opinion here - there's absolutely zero chance a single person on this forum has the knowledge and expereince to diagnose whether or not TT is ready to play.

Obviously, he shouldn't be rushed, but we don't know if he's healed or not - all we can do is speculate.

If he plays against LSU and gets another concussion he risks serious brain damage and possibly even death. I don't think he should play, but I think CUM will play him if he gets cleared by medical staff.

I'm new so hey ya'll to everybody! In my opinion Tebow should not play even if he has been cleared by the medical staff. Why risk his health because as much of a competitor that Tebow is I don't know if he would hold back if push came to shove. If UF has faith in their team they would give Tebow the extra week to rest. It would be a hard decision and he is a difference maker but you have to look at the big picture and the rest of the season not just one game even though it is a big one.JMO

There is no way Tebow should be allowed to play. It is just too much of a gamble and I feel like some of the others here in saying Meyer is only stringing the LSU coaches along.

I really feel that if I'm the LSU staff, I would prepare for Brantley. Forget TT playing this week

Of course, I think FL beats LSU even without TT. At this point I'm still not convinced of LSU's prowess despite the last minute win @GA.

Goal in life: Learn something new every day. CHECK for 10.05.09! Thanks, Doc.

I wish Tidefans.com had a neurologist among its diverse denizenry, who could give us his/her thoughts on the matter.
Staci has had extensive training in neurology. In fact, her title is really "neuropsychiatrist." She's already posted a couple of times in the original thread...

I don't think he should play. I'm far from an expert, but I have read up on the more expert opinions that have been posted on here (especially Savannah Dare). Furthermore, we all know how much of a gamer Tebow is. He has the body to be able to absorb more hits as a running QB than most other running QBs today, and he has the internal drive to do that. We also know that after your first concussion, it's a lot easier to get a second, and a third, etc.

I'm just afraid that Tebow's career will end because his head coach is too greedy. Tebow doesn't just have a potential NFL future (I say potential b/c we never know how any NFL prospect will work out; just ask Ryan Leaf), he also has a life to live, and another serious brain injury could be what keeps him held back for the rest of his life.

Should Florida play Tebow. No. It's not worth the risk to Tebow's career or Meyer's if he were to put him in a game and get him hurt again. Florida is leading the nation in most yards per attempt and also in fewest yards allowed per attempt. #1 teams should not be one-man teams. They should make a statement and just beat LSU without Tebow. Both LSU and Florida have each won two National Championships with SEC losses. Even a loss doesn't hurt Florida. They are a cinch for the SECCG anyway. The scrap is going to be in the West.

WILL Fiorida play Tebow. You bet yourazz. Tebow wants to play. Meyer wants him to play. The whole Florida team and enetire fandom desperately desire an undefeated season and another Heisman. Playing Tebow almost guarantees a win over LSU and the stairway to heaven. Tebow will play. He may not start. He may not play the whole game. But he'll play.

I hope he plays. Les will be far luckier if Tebow plays.

Welcome aboard! Be careful... this place is more addictive than crack cocaine.

But, it's legal! :cool2:

I didn't know that or I would have been more careful with what I post. I bet she's been diagnosing me. I bet she's been diagnosing all of us. She probably works for one of those three initial agencies for some secret project. She's probably knows who I am. I bet she's called my Dr. and given him some crazy diagnosis like "paranoia" and they are coming to get me. I'm not paranoid! Everyone just thinks I am.:eek2:

IF he is legitimately cleared by medical staff to play, then there is no reason to not have your best player on the field against LSU.

If it is iffy in any way, shape, or form, then UF owes it to Tebow to keep him out of the game.

I agree with this. Only if he's truly ready and cleared to play. It seems a little soon based on the info out there but no one outside of the inner circle at UF knows that for sure.
