No, I am in the group that if he left I would be grateful for what he did for Bama always. I simply passed on in a message board where people discuss things what people who played here I know said about their concerns. I won't be shocked if he stays, and won't be shocked if he goes. Bama fans owe him a lot either way.
Well, I was actually being mostly tongue-in-cheek there. So Texas has made an offer?

To that end, Mack Brown has also been working like he's staying....
You don't make it easy for them. I mean.....how many schools have actually FIRED a national championship coach?

2010 Auburn
2001 Miami
1998 Tennessee
1986 Penn State (but they HAD to because of Sandusky)

So you've had FOUR schools since 1970 to do it, not a lot, and one of them doesn't even count. (Yes, several including Tressel, Danny Ford, and Dennis Erickson resigned under pressure but they weren't fired is my point).

You MAKE them do it and get the best deal you can.

Well, I'm just making the point that the differences are not as much as presumed. It's like that mythical nostalgic America where we always debated issues and there was no hatred (insert Burr-Hamilton duel story here).

It should not be taken as an attack on anyone, but neither CPB nor CGS had to deal with social media, either. I would note that Saban has not said ANYTHING AT ALL at this point.
Fair enough -- but I think that is ultimately the biggest problem -- he's said NOTHING AT ALL -- which is really the loudest statement of all -- isn't it?

I keep hearing that - and having been both places all I can say is......HUH?

It's a university town just like T-Town. OK, it's about ten times the size but so what? Dallas is up the road, San Antone down it, so Austin hardly registers. Besides - that also translates into MORE DISTRACTIONS for college football players.

I'm just saying.
He'd have to worry about unplanned football team meetings at the Yellow Rose!

Regardless of how this ends, Coach has damaged his image with me. He has hired an agent who is treating the players, the fans and the recruits as pawns....

Coach Bryant and Coach Stallings wouldn't have left us dangling like this

I still love what he's done for Bama, but is his heart here? Or just his bank account?
....well, Coach Bryant did agree to take the Dolphins job in 1969 and then changed his mind and stayed. No message boards back then, or Bama fans would have gone crazy. ----------Coach Bryant came back more determined than ever and the result was the great 1970's decade......I'm hoping something similar happens with Coach Saban. Maybe the best is yet to come.

They're actually talking about things for the Sabans to do. They don't realize he only does one thing. All the rest is just clutter...

Penn State tried to force Paterno out long before the Sandusky scandal broke and Bowden was pretty much shoved out the door as well. Bowden wasn't fired in the strictest sense of the word but it was pretty close.

Did Tennessee fire Phil Fullofmanure or did he decide to retire to spend more time at Krispy Kreme?

tough spot you're putting him in. for 4 straight years he's had to deny, deny, deny ... he even denied the texas rumors this fall but because he doesn't get in front of a microphone every time orangebloods.com or clevelandreporter.org spits out a blog he's issuing "the loudest statement of all"?????

My thoughts exactly. I seem to recall (of course I have a terrible memory, har har) that there was a clause in Saban's contract that he only had to do fifteen personal appearances in a year. The guy's just not exactly the after-dinner speaker type even though I have no doubt he'd excel at it.

Hope this finishes up soon. Jee.

My point exactly... these shock-jock morons are going on and on about the nightlife. Saban's nightlife consists of film study and maybe sneaking another Oatmeal Creme Pie.

But, but, but the Longhorn Network wouldn't take up too much time!

This is getting an awful lot of traction by a lot of reputable folks. This is concerning. I suppose it wouldn't be prudent to start asking who Saban's replacement should be.

being forced out vs fired is a matter of semantics. so by your count there will now be 8 national title winning coaches kicked to the curb in the past 30 years ... that's a rough % considering the limited amount of coaches that have won a title since 1982

it's a dog eat dog business as you've pointed out (although didn't mean to)

you also missed Bobby Bowden who even says he was fired no matter how FSU spun it. so make it 9 ...
