Do you think winning the upcoming BSCCG will win Nick Saban a statue in that spot or not? and if so, would that statue be in place during his tenure or after he leaves?

The statues are relatively recent additions to BDS. They were added with the most recent stadium expansion. The precedent will be set on how to handle future statues when we win #13. Statues like the ones of Wade, Thomas, Bryant and Stallings are complicated sculptures. IMO, No matter happens in January, the next statue won't be there next September.

Regardless of what happens in the BCS game, I would not be in favor of erecting a statue of a coach while he's still at UA. I think any discussion of erecting a new statue is premature at best. We don't know what the future will bring, and as is the nature of college sports, anything can happen.
IMO it's much easier, and wiser, to wait until the time is right than to be forced into discussing the pros and cons of removing one.

Oklahoma has done the same thing with their Heisman Trophy winners. The make a big deal of unvailing the statue during a big game the next year. I went to their unvailing of White's statue during the Miami game a few years back.

I would bet my last dollar that the statue will not be put up while CNS is still coaching at UA. I could be wrong but I don't think he would like it. Also, we haven't won anything yet.

Although I understand the fanbase's willingness to have that spot filled after the hopeful national title in January, I don't think Coach Saban would want the statue right now. He certainly has the personality to believe his work is never done, and wouldn't want something of that nature until he's retired from Alabama. I think when he is done and Alabama, a solid decade from now, the timing will be right to honor one of the game's greatest coaches in such a way.

When you get down to your last dollar let me know and we'll bet. If CNS brings home #13 I think the statue will, and should be, erected ASAP after the victory. I don't understand why you would put it off. Then each year they can add another date to the space. :)

So we don't promote awarding individual awards to the players, but building statues for the coaches is OK? Hmmm.:conf2:

I don't think Saban would like it. In sports, I've always followed the rule of "act like you've been there before." My very first HS touchdown I wanted to jump up and down, but I just handed the ball to the ref and jogged to the sidelines. I know Saban feels the same way, and I think he sould be pretty upset if people wanted to overreact to a national championship that way. Even if it is a great accomplishment, there's no reason to build a statue for him until he's done at Alabama.

First, the game hasn't even been played so that alone would get a nice butt chewing from Coach. I just think he would think it was pretentious to be immortalized while he is still coaching. It is just my opinion. I would triple dog dare any reporter to pose the question to him before the game though. To me it would be like putting the bust of a great player in the Hall of Fame while they are still playing or retire their jersey, but that's just me.

Some of you are saying act like we've been there before like we aren't suppose to be happy if we win but on another note if we do win statue shouldn't be built till after his coaching is done at UA what since would it make but I would at least put his name on the back part where the names are

Why can't we wait and have this discussion/argument until after we've won the game?:conf2:

Some of you people kill me. You're making a big deal over nothing. Read the first post which I quoted for you above and you will not find where this person ever suggested that we have already won the game.

To answer your question, I do think that winning the upcoming BCSCG will get Saban a statue. I don't think that it is something you win. I do think that it is something that you achieve. This is not a coaching competition.

If the outcome of the game win Texas is in our favor, I would love to see the statue erected for our first game of the 2010 season.

"Act like you've been there before." LOL That is funny. I understand that statement as it pertains to the players, but you should come to my house when my family gets together and watches Bama play. You would think that we had gone crazy and that is why I love Bama football. Don't try to spoil the fun for everybody else that is not as stiff and dull as you! This statement is directed to whom it may concern. ;)
