I think this game plays out like most of our "big" games this year... LSU, Florida, even UT and Auburn.

The game is close (within 10 points) at halftime, but 'Bama's superior conditioning and athleticism, from the top to the bottom of our roster takes control in the second half, and especially in the 4th quarter.

We pull away in the 2d half, and the score gets lopsided.

Its close for 3 quarters, a long scoring drive or two in the second half gives McCoy the same kind of treatment Tebow got.... standing on the sidelines watching the inevitable.

It gets hot in Alabama in the summer too....

Honestly, bickering over which team has a better S&C at this level is stupid, imo. I haven't seen either team sucking wind in the 4th this season. Lets call it even. Our S&C coach IS crazier, though. Bet you can't one-up that one. ;)

Heat does not condition athletes, hard work does. I am not suggesting that Bama is better conditioned than Texas. Time will tell. But Bama has been better conditioned than any other team that we have faced this year.

As for Cody "sucking wind", I don't think that he will play more than 30% of the defensive downs in this game, so he can suck wind on the sidelines while our pass rush specialists fly through that sieve that you call an offensive line and crush McCoy... :biggrin:

Running up and down the field 100 times with a smile on your face is one thing. Running up and down the field with Cody in your face, and McClain on your back......that's a whole-nother-story......

You can be in great shape, but after a while, the (boy I hate this word) "physicality" of playing Bama takes a toll on you. That's why when we hold up 4 Fingers as we switch sides, we really mean it! We own the 4th!

OK, guys, let's get back on topic and post what we think the score will be and leave it at that. Don't respond to rival's posts - just let them have their opinions. If they don't follow the rules, we'll kick them off...

Texas is smallish and very fast. Bama is largish and very fast. That makes us "Physical". And in games of this magnitude, the most physical team normally wins. When you get to a game like this you can't win with smoke and mirrors. If one team can line up and run over you then it really doesn't matter if you run a 9.0 second 100 yard dash, especially if the more physical team can run a 9.7. That's still pretty fast.

I've used this axiom many times.."You might can outrun a freight train, but if you're a Nascar racer don't get on the track and go head to head in an attempt to stop it from getting to the depot".

I think the physical aspect of this game will indeed be the determining factor in Bama's favor.

Oh, and remember Ole Miss just beat OkieSt who was supposedly one of the better run teams in the Big12.
I think Bama is just a more physical team than what UT expects, on both sides of the ball, not just on defense. Nebraska is similar, but their offense is stagnant.
 
I really see Texas being a lot like Ole Miss with a less superior running game. Colt McCoy is a great quarterback, but the quarterback alone can't beat you. I know about Shipley, but i'm just not greatly impressed. I don't think that Shipley is as big a threat as McCluster at Ole Miss was. I think any team that you can force to have to try to beat you through the air, odds are in your favor. Bama rolls!!!

I think the long stretch between games probably benefits UT more than Bama for two reasons: 1) momentum would clearly have been on Bama's side if this game were played a week after the conference championship games given the performances of the teams in those games; and, 2) I believe a long stretch between games hurts a physical team like Bama more than it does a finesse/execution-type team like UT.

Both teams have great kick return and kicking games so special teams is likely a push.

Although I believe UT has a really good defense, I think Bama has an edge on offense because we have greater run-pass balance. The key for us will be to sustain the first two drives and put up some points early. If we sputter on O early, I think we might be in trouble.

Although UT has a potent offense, they are pretty one-dimensional. They choose to throw the ball a lot and that increases the risk of turnovers- especially with the range of defensive formations and movement McCoy will have to decipher before he throws. I think UT will try to use screens, drags and slants to slow our pass rush and get our LB into pass coverage mismatches but I think we'll see Ro getting into McCoy's passing lanes and causing problems.

UT comes out guns blazing and hangs in for two and a half quarters before their D gets worn down leaving McCoy and Shipley on the sidelines for most of the third and fourth quarters.

People much more well-versed in the game of football than I can speak of our advantages on the respective lines of scrimmage, or the fact that we've proven that we can move the ball against the best defenses in the country via either the run or the pass on our terms, or that we've taken apart one-dimensional offenses all year long.

But I think it's just as simple as this: we will not be denied.

We had worries about player eligibility before the Virginia Tech game (how long ago does that seem?). We would not be denied.

We lost Dont'a Hightower to injury against Arkansas, one of the best offenses in the country. We had to scramble, adjust, and keep our heads in the game...and we held them to seven points. We would not be denied.

Tennessee did everything right and we did just about everything wrong at the end of that game...and Terrence Cody raised a massive paw and blocked that kick. I've never heard a stadium sound like that before. We would not be denied.

LSU had the lead going into the fourth quarter, and pushed us to the very end...even as their players kept getting knocked out of the game. We would not be denied.

Auburn tried to bring back the ghosts of twenty years ago, emptied its playbook, took every effort to keep Mark Ingram from winning the Heisman...and we still would not be denied.

Then...Florida. The shadow that had loomed over the season. A team every bit our equal, so everyone thought. Actually, most talking heads thought they were better. They had every reason to be ready: the first perfect season in Florida history...cementing Tebow's legacy...a legitimate modern college football dynasty.

You know the rest.

Alabama has all the physical capabilities required to win. It has the advantage of some of the best coaching and game planning in the country. They are more battle-tested than Texas. But I think where Alabama will win this game is in that space between their collective ears. This is the best team in terms of mental preparation that I've ever seen.

I think the game will be close. Texas will give us their best. But we will not be denied.

1. If Texas has a good game and comes out firing on all cylinders we get up quick and force Bama out of their game plan and win easy. 34-17.

2. If both Bama and Texas come out flat and play average games. 20-16, not sure who gets the 20 but chances are it will be the Tide.

3. If Bama comes to play and UT is flat and can't stop the run. Bama 41-13.

No idea which way it will go but I think we will know if it's going to be a game by the end of the 1st quarter. I think option 2 is the most likely followed by 3 and then 1.

Those scenarios seem very realistic. Although, I think the score from #2 won't be b/c both teams are flat, I think it'll be because both team defenses had a month to prepare for the O of the other team. I only see #1 or #3 happening if one team gets an early ST/Def TD AND hits a big play early. I had Bama by about a TD early in the thread, Bama in the low 20s and Texas in the teens.

Both teams have great coaches who know their X's and O's. Neither team is gonna do anything they haven't done all year.Both staffs will put their players in position to make plays, but as the saying goes " it's not about the X's and O's....it's about the Jimmie's and Joe's", and Bama just has better players. The same thing will win this game that has won football games as long as I can remember....the team that blocks and tackles the best will win. Advantage Alabama
