Since when did Lincoln Riley care about defense? His defenses were horrible at Oklahoma. I sarcastically say he was forced out at OU for poor defenses.

To me, Riley is a slightly more successful Tom Herman. I think he’s a fine coach when it comes to offense but I don’t think really understands how to really run a program. With the way he left Oklahoma, I just feel like he’s a disingenuous person that lacks a lot of substance….which the exact same way I felt about Oklahoma teams, as well as the teams he’s fielded thus far at USC.

I remember all the talking heads foaming at the mouth when Riley hired him from tOSU to replace Mike Stoops, especially Herbstriet.

It was ”Oh boy…better watch out. Oklahoma gonna have a defensive to go with wonderboy Riley’s high scoring offense. Oklahoma gonna destroy people now.”

He looked absolutely lost Saturday night.

I was shocked he brought him with him to usc from ok. Dudes been a disaster of a coordinator since he started

I posted this right after the game Saturday night in another thread. Riley either had to fire Grinch or get fired himself so his choice was easy.

WRONG! This was a calculated move sure to have a Hollywood ending. Grinch and Gol*ing are to be named co-head coaches for the 2024 USA flag football Olympic team and a cinch for the Gol* Me*al!

Heard a football talking head (forget which) mention that Riley had never been part of a coaching staff that taught / played tough, physical football. Basically from the time he started coaching he learned under offensive guys who ran wide-open offenses but don’t know how to coach and play physical football.

You practice different, you recruit differet, you do lots of things differently depending on how your building your team, and fast/soft is all he knows - he doesn’t know how to coach smash mouth football because he’s never learned it.

Interesting thought. If true, he’s probably peaked.

USC had a defensive coordinator? I thought Pete Gol*ing was in Oxford, MS.
