That really is hard to fathom. All those years and they could not luck into a single win. Before yesterday, Vanderbilt was 0-60 vs AP top 5 opponents.

Their glory years were in the 1910s and 20s.That really is hard to fathom. All those years and they could luck into a single win.
Before yesterday, Vanderbilt football‘s high-water mark was probably playing Michigan to a 0-0 tie in 1922. Calling that a high-water mark, if an exaggeration, is only a slight one…Their glory years were in the 1910s and 20s.
In those days is when our “rivalry” with them began (recall they were a yearly opponent until the SEC redid the schedules in 2000). But it ceased to be a competitive game in the 1930s.Before yesterday, Vanderbilt football‘s high-water mark was probably playing Michigan to a 0-0 tie in 1922. well they beat Alabama 78-0 over 100 years ago. If our offense had played as bad as our defense, they might have broken that record. Before yesterday, Vanderbilt football‘s high-water mark was probably playing Michigan to a 0-0 tie in 1922. Will all due respect, this is silly. If we win the national championship, no one will care about the Vandy game. Do you honestly care that we lost to the Barn in 2017, or Ole Miss in 2015, or the first game against LSU in 2011? Didn't think so.Even if this team wins the NC, they’ll always be remembered as the #1 team that lost to Vandy. Their legacy is sealed.
I agree with this. If Alabama wins the NC this year, losing to Vandy as a #1 (or regardless of ranking) will be an after-thought. In some ways, winning the SEC last year sort made the USF almost-loss a non-factor - remember how many Alabama fans were "done" with the team after struggling to beat USF? Not sure how many of them would believe the future when Alabama beat UGA for the SEC title. Will all due respect, this is silly. Yelling about the UGA missed PI call isn't showing any fire in the belly?KD has yet to yet to show the public any fire in his belly, little clock management and the understanding of balling in the toughest conference in Div 1. He is not up to SEC standards; his body language and demeanor show it and he is lost much of the time.
There may never be another Saban type... but surely.....
Wait a minute! It strikes me a lot of the reason Saban retired was BECAUSE the complexion of college football had changed so much with the portal and NIL. Nick "saw the writing on the wall..." and decided he didn't want to have to deal with the spoiled undisciplined kids these new dynamics were bringing to the game.We lost this game due to a lack of.....Nick Saban.
Some of the players were acting like spoiled kids. Coach Saban taught players what to do on and off the field. Players who listened won titles, stayed out of trouble (for the most part) and many are now multi-millionaires who are set for life.
... coaches being able to impose standards and set "high bars" for the players. (Because these new players are being spoiled like crazy!)I suppose that I just need to come to peace with the fact that things will never be the same without ...
This is false. Mike Shula, Fran, Dubose, Stallings, etc didn't need Nick Saban to beat Vandy. We lost this game because of multiple failures: coaches and players own this one.We lost this game due to a lack of.....Nick Saban.

DeBoer might be a great coach some day. Hell, his record indicates that he already is. I am very impressed with his offense. That said, he needs to gain tighter control of the team. These players are not accustomed to a casual, fun loving approach.
I suppose that I just need to come to peace wth the fact that things will never be the same without the greatest coach in the history of the sport.
I'm going to be "that guy" for a minute...I already do not like this coaching staff.
Losing to VANDY does that.
@jess Now that we're five games in, do you still feel as confident Wommack was as solid of a hire as you first thought? Personally I think he will ultimately show it was a solid hire. We just are seeing a lot of things that come with program transition mixed with the new landscape of college football, portal, NIL etc.I'm going to be "that guy" for a minute...
Bear Bryant lost to Vanderbilt once and tied them 2-3 more times while at UA. He turned out pretty good.
Let's slow roll this "Vandy loss means death to all" mentality that a lot of people are getting into right now.
