Weather thread, Part III

35 when I got up this morning. 3 hours later only 38!

Forecast is for a hard freeze this Saturday. :(
If there are actually any citrus trees left in Central Florida this may finally take care of them. Let's hope Brazil has a bumper crop this year.

Moving some of my plants inside today and tomorrow in preparation for tomorrow night's hard freeze. Will probably keep them inside until Monday.

I'll also be wrapping some of my palms with strings of old school C7 Christmas lights. Pain in the butt - but gotta at least try to save what I have.....and replacing them would be much more work!!!

My buddy who has a huge Cycad nursery found an unoccupied home 2 doors down and is using it to house some of his material.....

Does this qualify as a "grow house" now? ;)

I have had to cover my vulnerable plants for the last 3 days -- and they will remain covered for the next 5 days or so...ferns, etc., that are planted in the ground. The good news is that even if they get "'burned" by the frost -- as they have the past 3 years -- by May they are back to full green. All I do is cut them back and let them grow.

My spouse chickened out and went to see her sister in Lakeland yesterday. I don't blame her but someone had to stay with the dog and look after the house. We do have a natural gas generator so if power goes out we are fine.

Just looked at the forecast for NSB. 24 degrees Sunday morning! Yikes

Taking a short break from moving plants in all day. Bedroom, hallway, living room, so far. Yesterday I wrapped Christmas lights around 4 of my palms. Today I wrapped 3 heating pads around my prized Satakentia liukiuensis. I wish I had been better prepared to address other larger sized palms but just didn't see this one coming and that's on me, however it turns out. To do it right takes a lot of work and the right number of extension cords.

The really bad part is the length of time at that 25 degrees - 8-10 hours. That's what really does the plants in.

The biggest loss for me would be my 3 large Coconut Palms. I also have a number of nice Crown shaft palms native to Australia I'd hate to lose. They are a bit hardier than the Coconut.

I'm going out in a bit and take photos of everything just to document.

Almost gives me that feeling when a hurricane is coming.....:(

All good...only about an inch of snow at the most. Walks and steps are clean that are in the sun...safe to go in and out with my dog. VERY COLD -- low was around 20 -- 26 now with wind blowing out of the North -- windchill of 19 or so. Did not take long for my Goldador to do his business and head back in.

Has anyone heard from TideHSV up on the mountain?

We dodged the worst of it. It went a little north. There was a little ice but deicer took care of it. Our kids in Nashville had it worse. Their power went out and their pipes froze despite running the water. That doesn't help when the water main breaks. They stayed in a hotel for several days...

Got this in an email today from a friend who lives around the corner from me:

I'm in Nashville all week for work. Crazy ice storm damage up here!
