I remember Mac Jones first start, it was ugly but you could see the potential. I say that because I think to much negativity is being put on Milroe because of the A&M game. He had BoB calling plays, even Bryce looked bad at times running his offense. If he’s the guy I think he’ll surprise a lot of us.
BoB does not fumble, BoB does not miss open receivers, BoB is not the reason for inaccurate passes.

The issues people have with Milroe’s performance have nothing to do with BoB.

I think the offense we were running under Bryce didn't do Milroe any favors. But I agree with you.
Agreed. There are aspects of being a quarterback that transcend offensive philosophy, things like accurate passes, reading defenses, and getting the ball out on time. Milroe’s live action audition to be the starting quarterback did not go well when the opposing team knew he was going to start.

Mac made some horrendous INT’s against Auburn. It took me sometime to trust him but this is a result of us being fans and not being in practice everyday to see the development.
I agree that Mac's first INT against the barn was a bad pass -- underthrown and into coverage. No doubt he would say the same.

The second INT is the one that most people remember. It literally hit the RB (Najee?) in the butt cheek and bounced up perfectly into the arms of a trailing LB who had been beaten in pass coverage. The LB carried momentum he already had toward a part of the field where there were few to no Alabama players....certainly none with the speed to run him down from behind. Easy 100 yard+ pick six, and a minimum 10 point swing, probably 14.

While it wasn't a perfect pass, I didn't think it was a bad one. Seemed to me far more Jordan Hare voodoo than a mistake by Mac.

Exactly.

IF this team is as PHYSICAL as they imply it is, give me whoever can hit a ten yard out and an eight yard post with some consistency, and let them running backs eat all the way to the National Title game.
I don't disagree but if/when we are down 2 scores, it usually takes longer to score when trying to run it in. Personally, I prefer a team that can run, but the running game and running backs in general have become less important in the NCAA and especially the NFL.
Saban is going back to his roots this season wrt the running atack. Will it work? It might, but the defense will really have to hold down the scores allowed and our QB must be able to throw accurately when called upon and not be a turnover machine.
As always, jmo.

I don't think we are going back as far as some fans think we are.

in addition i think the entire team, for a multitude of reasons, turned into a complete basket case after bryce’s injury last year

This! Georgia just won back to back championships with a great running game and a hard-nosed defense, but without Bennett making a lot of really good plays through the air (and on the ground) that doesn't happen. This team is not going to look like the 2009 team.

I agree, but why? I think it goes back further than that. When we left Austin, yeah we had the dub, but it sure didn't feel like we had just won. That was a disappointing effort and I think the players knew it as well as anybody else did. Against lower competition we could look good, but against competition that had a pulse, there were definite cracks in the foundation that Bryce was able to compensate for all on his own. That's how good a player he was and when he went down, I think the insecurities on the rest of the team truly manifested and never really went away. When the heat was on, we pressed and it would up costing us 2 losses.

luckily, the only part of the texas game I saw was the final drive. i don’t think they were in a great place before bryce’s injury and that was the straw that broke the camel’s back. i have no idea why. the 2021 team was quirky too. neither team seemed to have the consistency/“it” factor we’ve come to expect

2022 was just weird. I can go back, and watch seasons we didn't win a title. 2010, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2019. There is something enjoyable to find in all those years. Something about 2021 and 2022 I just can't sit through. Win or lose it just wasn't Alabama football.

Idk either but I hope the coaching changes help. We need our mean streak back that we seemed to be missing recently. I think Saban called it having "hateful competitors" IIRC

i have to say that the ‘21 sec championship game was a thing of beauty. sadly, we only got that one stellar performance in those two years

I know it was against an overmatched arky team. But this game convinced me that Mac could take over for TUA once his time was done.

I was like "there is something here."
That is some awesome film right there. He went on to have the greatest season in Tide History. I am old and grateful to have witnessed. But it is ok to admit that passes thrown behind running backs in the red zone that end up being TD’s for the other teams are bad passes. He had very good moments against Auburn as well. Would you consider Mac Jones one of the greatest tide qb’s or an over achiever, or a kid who lived up to expectations?

I am weird because I'll be able to watch that game again after we make things right and start playing like Alabama again and after we settle the score with Georgia. I know that doesn't sound like it makes any sense, but it is what it is.

It's because the mechanic didn't use the right tool(s) for the task(s) as did Sark and Kiffin running the machine. Add in that Pete couldn't the hoses from bursting, and we survived the season pretty much on talent alone!
