Good question..........I'm curious....did Murphy KNOW she was leaving when he pinched her at that final at bat? It seemed to be a totally ridiculous call....

That's a strange one to me. She's started since day one, been to two world series now, and was one of our more consistent hitters. Let me guess, Florida wants to steal her to replace Skylar Wallace. Do we have a shortstop coming in or something? I don't understand this one.Just read that Cahalan is transferring with two years left. Huge surprise as she’s started since day one and led the team with .296 average this year.
It does sound like Briski is staying and will become the new ace but we need to build a deep staff.

Again.....I saw an article someone posted on another site about Cahalan that said she's probably leaving because she thinks next year will be a hot mess and is looking for a good opportunity. The article goes on to poke pretty hard at Murphy, (calls him Caveman Pat), and Adam Arbour the "so called hitting coach". Murphy is quoted in the article as saying he thought Arbour did a good job of building relationships with the players this year, which is something that takes a while to do. I agree that you do want to get to know your players, but your first job is teaching them how to hit. Plus, wasn't Arbour around a while as a volunteer before he got the official job. Seems like he spent the year getting to know everyone instead of teaching them how to hit. Meanwhile, BAMA's offensive production this year was cut in half. The author fully expects Cahalan to land somewhere and be the SEC player of the year next year. Skylar Wallace did it, KB Sides did it, why not her. This just doesn't look good to have one of your best players jumping ship.
11th if OU & UT had already been in the conference. The fact we got our Ace in Beaver from the portal AND she loved her year on the team and fit in nicely, I hope that bodes well for others we get this offseason. I was thinking about that phrase you hear a lot these days, "both can be true" and I think it totally applies to 2024 UA Softball. The team had a very good postseason and showed amazing heart and clutch play getting to OKC and being in the final 6.
BUT- I think it's fair for Byrne to discuss the future of the program and what changes are needed to not repeat a 9th place SEC finish, with OU/UT coming on board.
Like just about everything else in sports there are several things that can be true all at once both very positive and negative. Making it to the WCWS was a great accomplishment but at the same time our flaws from the past 6-7 years still are haunting us. Anyone with any baseball or softball sense can see that we just don’t hit at a level to compete consistently with top competition. Our pitching is phenomenal and has carried us for the past 10 years. But you start to wonder when the bottom totally falls out from under us and we have a mediocre year at pitching. The fact we got our Ace in Beaver from the portal AND she loved her year on the team and fit in nicely, I hope that bodes well for others we get this offseason. At some point Alabama has to ask itself… Is making it to OKC the number 1 goal or is winning a national championship the ultimate goal? I think the past 10 years have shown us that the former is more of an expectation. From 2015 to present we have made it to OKC 6 out of 9 years. However we only made it to the semis twice in that stretch and had just as many 2 and dones as well. Our record is 6- 12 in OKC. Compare that to his 2006-2014 run and you start to see we are no longer a team that is consistently challenging for a national championship and more of a participant of the last 16 and 8 teams left in the tournament. For some that is good enough, but for others we remember when this program was winning atleast two games in OKC every year and making a real run.
I’m happy for this particular team. They achieved far more than they were supposed to and Beaver was far more impressive than just about anyone thought. But you have to wonder what the future of this program looks like when the big girls come into the SEC.
Speaking of big girls coming to the SEC, in game 1 of the WCWS championship, OU scored 8 runs. They had 9 hits, which included 3 HR's and 3 doubles. Texas went thru 4 pitchers trying to slow them down. We need to step up.Like just about everything else in sports there are several things that can be true all at once both very positive and negative. The game of softball more or less changed in 2016. It stopped being a PAC 12 sport and started to become a national sport. A lot of that changed was due to Murphy, Gasso, and Walton bringing softball East of the Mississippi. But the fundamental changes of the game happened when Gasso and Auburn got tired of losing key series to Alabama and Florida. They to investing in hitting gurus that started to analyze hitting vs elite pitching. Auburn hired Clint Myers and if not for his son dating a player then it’s highly likely Auburn is the powerhouse of the SEC because his reign of terror in the SEC was giving Murphy and Walton fits that they hadn’t seen in 10 years before or since. That’s a lot of winning shared but it does show when we get to a final 16 final 8 that we often dont have enough offense to go deep in the WCWS.
It really is a feature or CPM's program. Recruit 5* pitchers and 3* fielders who are great in the field but not necessarily as strong at the plate. Then coach them to see as many pitches at the plate as possible rather than putting the ball in play on hittable pitches.
Saw on Rolltide.com our commit Kennedy Marceaux was named Gatorade player of year for LA
The little bit of recruiting news I’ve read is encouraging
I think Murph can almost guarantee PT right away in a lot of positions
Vic Moten, pitcher from Daphne, AL and a BAMA commit was just named Gatorade player of the year for Alabama. Great hitter and pitcher. She was a junior this year but I thought I read she was going to graduate early, so I'm hoping, but not sure, if she will be with BAMA for the 2025 season. We can definitely use her now. Murphy seems to still be able to recruit good players, but can he develop good players. We will see.Saw on Rolltide.com our commit Kennedy Marceaux was named Gatorade player of year for LA

Cahalan's natural position is 3B. Don't know if playing SS or not played into her entering the transfer portal.Just saw something that says Alabama signee, Kennedy Marceaux, a shortstop here in Louisiana, was named the Gatorade Louisiana player of the year. Is that why Cahalan decided to transfer?
Well, 3B will be open next year. Hate to lose her talent.Cahalan's natural position is 3B. Don't know if playing SS or not plated into her entering the transfer portal.
