Saban signs multi-year extension w/Bama, shorthorns on suicide watch...

Re: New Discussion Thread on Possible Coaching Changes...

My money is on Malzahn. He's the the talk of the town, he's made one of the most amazing turn arounds in CFB history, and he'll bring in an offense that will put butts in the seat.

Not to mention that they could get him much cheaper than an NFL coach, or one at one of the bigger, more elite schools. AU doesn't have quite the clout or cash of an NFL franchise, or an Alabama/Notre Dame/Ohio State.

Plus recruiting at Texas would be a cakewalk compared to recruiting at Auburn.

Re: New Discussion Thread on Possible Coaching Changes...

I agree with both, but there is a problem - there is no way that Texas is going to ask for or get permission to talk to him until after the BCSCG, and Texas is not going to wait that long.

mmmm...that doesn't apply to his agent, does it? Agents do all the prelim work anyway nowadays; until Mack is gone it's all in limbo anyway. Heck, he might stay until the bowl game, then the wait wouldn't really be that long.

Re: New Discussion Thread on Possible Coaching Changes...

This is just laughable!! All of you thinking Coach Saban is going to leave. I haven't read all the posts here, so if I say something that has already been said, forgive me. Coach has said he's not leaving. Terri Saban told the WSJ they're going to retire here! He supposedly has told a few recruits that he isn't going anywhere. This is all just a 'why can't everybody listen and believe?' bunch of people! He said on his live radio show that he was "too _____ old to start over." I know, I know , Texas has a big wallet. But guys don't think for a minute that Coach wants to go through another 'Miami' exit. I believe he truly regrets how that all panned out. And he isn't going through that again. I look at it this way: He has built a program here that is second to none. He's done it the right way, taught these players about life and not just football, and there is no way under the sun he's going to put his integrity and character on the line again. Have we become a people that is nothing but suspicious and can't trust ANYONE?!? And I think its humorous now because he hasn't said anything since being offered the extension and not signing it: I think he's doing it on purpose just to get a rise out of all of you and seeing if anybody who is a Bama fan even trusts him! Oh, I'm finished ranting! Hey, if he goes, I'll eat crow! I've had to do it before! But I firmly believe there will be no crow to eat but, instead, it will be a bunch of the fans swimming in their own tears after whining and worrying about Coach Saban's leaving!!! And NO, I DON'T KNOW ANYBODY WHO COULD AFFIRM WHAT I'VE SAID!!! I just trust Coach Saban!!! I'm Tider70, and I APPROVE THIS MESSAGE!!!

Like most politicians who use this type of ending, a lot of what's included in this post is a bunch of garbage.

Re: New Discussion Thread on Possible Coaching Changes...

I stepped away from this conversation a couple of days ago when I realized it was a whirlwind of rumors and speculation. It looks like the mood is the same even on this different thread. Look, all things point to coach staying. Everything he has said to us, the recruits, the Nation (on 60 Minutes)...I just don't see him going anywhere. Yes, he has made some monumental gaffes in the past when leaving a program but I just feel he is much more intelligent than any of us give him credit for.

Think of it this way. Auburn and FSU are about to go to the last BCSNCG in history and all the nation is focused on is Nick Saban. It is a bigtime win win for him to leave that contract unsigned. He is making more money and notoriety everyday and that includes the windfall of all of these 5 star recruits seeing him in the news constantly. I think it is a brilliant move by him and I really look forward to one incredible recruiting class because of it.

Re: New Discussion Thread on Possible Coaching Changes...

With all of the agendas, factions, infighting, political manuvering, leaks to the press of rumors/truths, at what point does UT's garbage make it impossible NOT to fire MB? Regardless of who they may or may not be able to hire, can he conceivably stay if this nonsense goes on much longer? I've gotta believe assistants are putting out feelers and recruits are asking themselves if they really want to step into a cesspool like UT.

Didn't he sign a new deal a week or two ago? Was there no clause in his new deal?

Even if the deal gets done, not a word could slip out. Remember Miles to Michigan a few years ago? I have a very reliable source who told me that the deal was agreed to - it was done. Then someone opened his/her mouth and put Miles in a very bad spot, so he backed out of the deal and stayed at LSU.

Hence the "orchestrated" smokescreen of CNS' name being bandied about...I have no clue, just looking under rocks...

Same problem as Fisher - have to wait too long.

Re: New Discussion Thread on Possible Coaching Changes...

If you had, you might be more informed as to why some were worried. Just sayin...

Yeah, this is how I read his first few sentences:

I may not have a lot of "knowledge" or "information" or "insight". I may not have done any "research" or attempted to be "informed". But, here's why you're all idiots...

I also envision a lot of air-quotes.

Re: New Discussion Thread on Possible Coaching Changes...

Best case scenario:

UT gets rid of Brown, using CNS as a possible replacement. CNS stays at Bama (and gets a little richer from the UT situation), UT hires (Gus, Jimbo, Harbough...just pick one).

Worst case:

CNS leaves for UT

Worser Case:

Brown in retained, CNS stays and next year Brown is pushed out and WE GO THROUGH THE SAME THING AGAIN!!!

So let's just hope UT gets their "change" but doesn't get CNS!!!

Re: New Discussion Thread on Possible Coaching Changes...

It would without question cause destruction. Consider some implications of a Saban move to Texas.

Now, along with all of those things, he would be directly competing for the resources that he's stockpiled at Alabama. It would wreak havoc, and there's no way around that.

Oddly enough, it seems Texas and Alabama very rarely cross paths in recruiting. I just took a look at both rosters for 2013. For Texas, 90% of the players are from the state of the Texas with the rest being one or two players from other states. Conversely, Alabama only has a few(I think I counted 10) players from Texas. Most of Alabama's players look like they come from AL, GA, FL(quite a lot from FL), and generally in the southeast. I know this is the norm for Texas and I'm making the assumption the Alabama squad has a similar make up year over year as well.

It makes sense though. With Texas and Florida being two of the top producers of high school talent and Florida being in closer proximity it makes sense Bama would have more Florida kids. I wonder if Alabama starts recruiting Texas more now that the SEC has a foothold in the state with A&M.

I came into the first thread a few pages after Earle had said he had reason to be less confident about Saban agreeing to Alabama's extension. It took going back through a few pages, but I didn't want to look like a dolt saying "what y'all worried 'bout? Y'all crazy." It pays to inform yourself about what's going on.

Glad to see you're back contributing on the thread… appreciate your insight, especially what you'd provided on earlier threads. IF Saban went to UT, I'd guess that he'd likely be able to take our LA recruitment with him - we've poached some excellent players from Louisiana during his time here… and the proximity to UT would lend itself to that happening.

On another note, you'd earlier indicated that you'd thought "Saban to UT" was about a 25% possibility. You still at that figure… or has it changed?
