Re: New Discussion Thread on Possible Coaching Changes...
If anyone thinks CNS is leaving after tonight, you need help.

Consider this - If Saban is really after something specific and he gets it, something would have changed should this arise again next year - the desire of Saban to play the game. The only reason that the speculation has been able to reach this level is Saban's silence. So you think if Mack stays, and wins 7 or 8 game next year, this will magically go away? Saban may very well be leveraging for something right now, but everything we are actually hearing is coming from the Texas side. To this point we haven't heard a single word from Saban or his wife except "We're not leaving". The only thing that will change is the belief by some people on our side that this possibly has legs. The stories and rumors from the Texas side still will continue to come, media outlets will continue to run with them, recruits will continue ask CNS if he is staying, some of our fans will continue to freak out, and our rivals will squeal with glee with every mention of "Saban to Texas". That will absolutely happen just like it has the last 3 years.
Ego is what would make him walk away, not stay. No one wants to be where they are not appreciated. Those who can walk away when they are faced with this scenario.Well, ego would certainly would play a part, I guess. He's repeatedly expressed his belief that Texas football was on the verge of being back to elite status, as is expected of any coach. Also, he probably feels some loyalty to the players in his program, not to mention his coaching staff. I'm sure that he feels hurt and betrayed by some boosters and such over the coup attempt currently happening, but if he isn't forced out, do you really think he'll agree with the thinking that the best thing for the UT program would be for him to retire quietly into the night? I figure that if he can somehow stay, he'll do just that...
If you've followed this story since Sunday, you'll understand there HAS been some interest in the UT job on Saban's part. Realize I'm saying he's NOT really interested in going to UT, but knows expressing ANY interest will give him enough leverage with UA to get whatever he's after. You've got to know that Saban could have EASILY squashed this stuff early this week had he chosen to do so. If there's nothing amiss this time next year, I imagine he won't be wiling to go through all of this again. Oh... I'm sure the UT folks will continue to talk... they're a delusional group. So you think if Mack stays, and wins 7 or 8 game next year, this will magically go away? I wonder if that is the wording he really wanted to use here :biggrin:SIAP, but this article is taking Texas to task for this entire debacle, and Doyel nails it. I had a good laugh:

:
"My point is this: Texas football is out of control, an enormous dog being wagged by a tiny tail, a $100 million enterprise that funds an entire athletic department and created an entire television network and held hostage two or three BCS conferences in the past few years. Texas football is a monster, and monsters don't move with precision."
I hope Mack makes The ShortHorn's lives a living hell for the way he's been treated by they're fanbase all the way up to AD & President..And especially to the boosters that purposely leaked all this to embarrass Mack..The worse they treat Mack, the less chance they'll have of hiring a descent HC, cause no good HC will walk into a job that they know will treat him like they treat or treating Mack in this ordeal..SIAP, but this article is taking Texas to task for this entire debacle, and Doyel nails it. It's sad that Texas fans and beat writers are making up these rumors, saying he's stepping down, just straight disrespecting Mack Brown. They are some of the most selfish fans I have ever seen.I hope Mack makes The ShortHorn's lives a living hell for the way he's been treated by they're fanbase all the way up to AD & President..And especially to the boosters that purposely leaked all this to embarrass Mack..The worse they treat Mack, the less chance they'll have of hiring a descent HC, cause no good HC will walk into a job that they know will treat him like they treat or treating Mack in this ordeal..
They aren't paying him five and change to break even in a stripped down Big 12.I hope Mack makes The ShortHorn's lives a living hell for the way he's been treated by they're fanbase all the way up to AD & President..And especially to the boosters that purposely leaked all this to embarrass Mack..The worse they treat Mack, the less chance they'll have of hiring a descent HC, cause no good HC will walk into a job that they know will treat him like they treat or treating Mack in this ordeal..
Even when Saban says he's going to stay, people don't listen. How many times does he have to say it before people believe it?Consider this - If Saban is really after something specific and he gets it, something would have changed should this arise again next year - the desire of Saban to play the game. How do we know he hasn't? Looking like a jilted bride hasn't stopped them the last 2 or 3 years. They will spin it that there was no opening if Mack stays this year anyway. So, if this happens again next year and Saban doesn't want to play, all he has to do is tell Sexton to send word to Texas that he is not going to consider Texas again. They (Texas) don't want to look like jilted bride 2 years in a row, so they immediately make it clear that they are looking elsewhere.
Maybe you're right, but I still don't see how Texas hiring another coach and moving on isn't the best case scenario for us. If Mack is on the chopping block once again next year, it will still result in Coach having to squash rumors and yet again publicly profess his love to us to make people feel better and we will still be hearing crazy stories coming from everywhere. If you've followed this story since Sunday, you'll understand there HAS been some interest in the UT job on Saban's part. That's not the point though, there's no sense in playing around or embarrass him, man up & fire him & quit playing games..He's earned that much & deserves to be treated better than this..That's just me though..They aren't paying him five and change to break even in a stripped down Big 12.
Grady was also a Baptist preacher and friend...really knew how to make us look at ourselves. An old comedian, Grady Nutt, used to tell a joke about Texas. He said "there was miles and miles of "Nuthin". The strangest thing to him was that Texans put up fences to keep your sumthin off of their nuthin."
Tideman, part of the awkwardness, I believe, is driven by the desire to let Mac walk away with dignity. But Texas seems powerless to control the process. Too many cliques with too many mouthpieces in the media. That's not the point though, there's no sense in playing around or embarrass him, man up & fire him & quit playing games..He's earned that much & deserves to be treated better than this..That's just me though..
I agree 100% with this. Its one of the most bizarre things I've ever seen in a coaching change/not change. That's not the point though, there's no sense in playing around or embarrass him, man up & fire him & quit playing games..He's earned that much & deserves to be treated better than this..That's just me though..
You make a good point that I had not thought of. This conversation has been tweeted out several times this week. Why should he make himself available to a bevy of reporters (something we know he is quite fond of) just to tell them the same thing he has been telling the recruits and parents - and if he did would they (UT Fans) believe it more then?... He has been recruiting like a mad man, telling recruits, their parents, and their coaches every single day that is not leaving. Maybe its just my opinion here, but it seems to me that his actions are speaking louder than any words he could say. Anything short of him signing yet another contract would likely be discounted anyway, since it had reported that there was contract waiting on his desk to signed since Friday. It is now known that was never the case, so I'm fine with him recruiting like crazy until Monday when the dead period and work on the details of the contract after that.
Yep - I knew he was from around here. I saw him at a church banquet out in Odessa, Texas growing up (yes I am one of those guys, a Texan - but I am reformed :biggrinGrady was also a Baptist preacher and friend...really knew how to make us look at ourselves.
You make a great point..If they want him gone, it's simple, buyout his contract & move on..They gave him his big contract, now either get behind him or pay the money & move the hell on..They say they have more money than they know what to do with..Prove it or shut up & get behind Mack to try and turn this thing around..JMHOTideman, part of the awkwardness is driven by the desire to let Mac walk away with dignity. On the other hand, Snuffy, he's not oblivious to what's going on and could end it anytime he wants. He's keeping quiet for a reason, and it likely has everything to do with his next contract. You make a good point that I had not thought of.
