Weather thread...

it's comforting to know that -40F equals -40C
I found it out the hard way in Steamboat Springs on a group ski trip. I still carry numb finger tips and damaged toenail matrices from it. When we arrived, after a stop down at Summit County, after the first day, the temps plunged. The only guys whose car would start had the foresight to bring their battery inside. We made a pact not to ski unless it got up to -25F. The next AM, I came down and couple of the guys were already up and had the local crawler/weather on. The bottom of the screen was -40 on one side and -40 on the other. I just said I didn't know that. One said that, had I gotten up earlier, I would have seen -47F. We donned ski masks, just to walk over to dinner. The next day, it did get up to -10 and I skied and got frostbitten...

well, we are having a comparatively mild day

On the mountaintop, we hit 90 two days in a row, for the first time in two years. Today was only 85, but we're going to a Billy Strings concert at the Orion Amphitheater tonight. Just going to try to stay hydrated...

Actually been fairly decent the last few days...at least earlier in the am and later in the afternoon...next week is calling for some low 90's, then rain and temps in the 80's. Cannot get here soon enough!

Sorry for all you suffering in Texas and other places...

Biked 16 miles this morning, but I started at 7am. It was pretty muggy towards the end.
I actually did mow the yard yesterday afternoon as I threatened here. Wasn't too bad, just a took an hour, and despite having my 45# ruck on, I felt fine - just uber-sweaty.

Did my standard six mile ruck this AM but like you, stepped off early (both yesterday AM and this AM I started at about 6:40) - 95% humidity sucks no matter how hot it is. When your sweat doesn't evaporate, your body's cooling mechanism is rendered virtually pointless.

I've not weighed myself to measure actual water loss, but I'm betting I'm down a good half-gallon post-ruck on these humid days.

We've got more of that wonderful 'Houston weather' today. :)

My dry fit was still soaked. I got home and cleaned my bimmer seats because I thought they might be sweat soaked.

We left the Billy Strings concert early last night, in part because the heat index was still at 100 at 7:00. Also, the spotlights in our eyes, someone lighting up behind us. Also, Liz's Apple watch lit up with a warning that ten more minutes of that noise would damage our hearing...
