President-elect Trump's appointments

RFK's "point of view on issues" is all that's worth talking about. If the discussion is about who's more qualified for the post, being an "autism is caused by vaccines" spokesperson is absolutely a disqualifier. I'm amazed that anyone is actually defending the guy at all.
I guess not everyone see the world as black and white. I disagree with RFK regarding vaccines, but that doesn't mean he can't bring some good to the table (quite literally).

The point of comparing them is the current Sec has done nothing to fight big pharma and the big food companies that are colluding to keep people sick.

Taxpayers from the other 49 states pay for breakfast and lunch for every child in Mobile County? I'm from Mobile. Grew up poor but never got a taxpayer-funded meal. If that's true, that sounds like a gross misuse of funds and a lot of built-in waste.

My default is for everyone (individuals, states) to pay their own bills. So, the programs wouldn't necessarily be gone; they'd be paid for at the state level. The further the distance between the payer and the recipient, the greater the waste. There is no incentive to spend money wisely when someone else is writing the check. If poor kids need meals, the state in question can best decide how to spend their own money on a remedy. Someone else will pay? Well, then by gosh let's get freebies for everyone.

It's a classic economic exercise. The way things are set up now through the federal government, everyone is just basically stealing from everyone else.

The problem with that stance is that there are several states that have to prop up the others, Alabama being one of those. They take in way more Federal money than they send out. Alabama is simply poor, and taking care of children will undoubtedly be one of the first programs on the chopping block.

Same. When one compares labels for "identical" products found in both the U.S. and in Europe, the differences are astonishing.
Watched a video of some Brits who like to bring over American foods for Brits to try (Jolly- YT channel). They couldn’t get cheese whiz in England “because it has too many chemicals in it and it’s illegal to sell it there.”

So, the current guy, in your view, hasn't done a good job, so you want to replace him with an anti-vaxxer who promotes raw milk? How about getting someone with qualifications in healthcare?

Did the AG of California have an actual documented body count?

RFK Jr Does

and as everyone should know there is no such thing as "alternative medicine" by it's very definition, alternative medicine has either been not proven to work or proven to not work. When "alternative" medicine is proven to work it is just called medicine.

I think that would be great, but it's not my choice

I just find it funny that this selection is the worst thing ever when it's basically just slightly different than what we've had.

If advocating for an anti-vaxxer to head HHS makes you feel superiorly nuanced, go right ahead. I absolutely agree that Big Food shouldn't be trusted to be honest in voluntarily reporting new additives as GRAS. Maybe somewhere there's a person willing to use the power of government to improve the health of Americans (especially those in poverty) without also encouraging the deaths of children through the spread of preventable disease.

Trump’s national security wrecking crew

American voters gave Donald Trump a solid win on Election Day. But they didn’t give him a wrecking ball to destroy the country’s military and intelligence agencies.

That’s what’s so scary about Trump’s nominations of Pete Hegseth and Tulsi Gabbard as secretary of defense and director of national intelligence, respectively. Neither is remotely qualified for two of the most important management jobs in government. They’re polemicists and ideologues — wreckers, to be blunt, rather than builders. If confirmed, they would do more to doom Trump’s presidency than Democrats ever could.

It's not about feeling superior, it's that this is the choice. I can't do anything about it, so I'm appreciating the fact that he wants to clean up our terrible food supply.

I'm not defending him, I'm saying he's no worse wrt allowing people to die from preventable disease than his predecessor, who no one seemed to have a problem with.

Man, you guys are so team-oriented - if they're not on your team, they're 100% awful. Zero gray area for you.

There is no "team" here. Pretty sure none of us even knew who was HHS admin is which is exactly as it should be, I also cannot point to a single thing he changed for the worse. I can (and have) showed you RFK's documented body count but I guess since he is now a part of your tribe you have to claim equivalence?

I wasn't posting on this part of the board when Biden was appointing people to his cabinet. If I had been and there was discussion regarding GRAS and HHS (was there?), I would have expressed the same sentiments as you regarding the possible dangers of unregulated additives. However, the Becerra ship has sailed.

This team jazz is nonsense. For example, I don't have a big problem with Rubio as Secretary of State, though he wouldn't have been my first choice. It's the drive to legitimize the crazy and deliberately provocative picks by Trump that is mystifying.

RFK isn’t flavor of the week to the liberal echo chamber on this site, so he’s automatically a terrible choice. If he supported Ukraine billions in perpetuity and vaccines which cause myocarditis in eight year olds, he’d be peachy keen.

I share your opinion on Rubio, it's fine, who cares.

I like Rubio. Solid addition. Best pick by far from President Trump.

I've watched RFK for 20 years. He is a nutjob. While the focus on food additives is a good one and I think most would agree that we could revise this area, the total portfolio he brings and his past actions and stated beliefs are extremely problematic when it comes to running HHS and the agencies under it.

RFK Jr. blames the US for the war in Ukraine, has consistently spouted pro-Putin propaganda, AND advocates for disease that will kill children. No wonder MAGA loves him.
