Post game thoughts (including coaching) thread. Let's not have 50 new ones...

Re: OK - Post game thoughts thread. Let's not have 50 new ones...

I just don't want to have to go through yet another coaching change

Well, keep expecting what we've been getting, because we've been doing the same things over and over.

getting a solid OC and take the playcalling away from Shula.

Well, don't expect that to happen... he isn't going to give up calling plays.

I just don't think he has the confidence in his players to call a good offensive game on a consistent basis.

I think it's the other way around!!

Re: OK - Post game thoughts thread. Let's not have 50 new ones...

Today, we played hard. We had some major miscues! We should have won this one but the 4 turnovers made that impossible.

IRON BOWL + Four turnovers = a loss 99.9% of the time.

6-6 is not what I expected.

JPW may turn out to be a GREAT QB. He made a believer out of me. I love his grit. We should have an outstanding WR corp next year. However, I am feeling a little iffy about the running backs. We need some players on the D.

Roll Tide.

Re: OK - Post game thoughts thread. Let's not have 50 new ones...

The decision to kick a field goal in the first quarter on 4th and goal, and then going for 2 twice, netted us 1 point. 1 point for one more try into the end zone?

If the decision to kick the field goal was correct, then the decision to go for 2 twice was incorrect. IMO.

Roll Tide. I will support CMS as our HC because I love Bama. If not him, I'll support whoever. But I will not call for his firing. Two reasons. 1) I love Alabama. 2) Even if he was the best coach in the nation, execution takes place on the field.

Re: OK - Post game thoughts thread. Let's not have 50 new ones...

My personal thoughts are that we have some serious issues with coaching. Like some of you here tonight, I too would not like to go through yet another head coaching change. But there MUST be changes in position coaches, especially the OL coach. We are just not a physical football team on the OL. Zone blocking doesn't work, and the schemes that CBC employs simply don't work against the competition in the SEC.

Re: OK - Post game thoughts thread. Let's not have 50 new ones...

Shula isn't confident in his decisions. That's why he took a delay of game (not to set up the angle bc JC wasn't even in position to kick when the clock ran out). That's why he essentially wasted a TO to run what looked like a wasted play. Take away Capps' 14 points and we win the game despite another horrible offensive effort (15 points 4 TO's). No confidence+poor coaching+evenly matched=0-4 Seems like pretty simple math.

Being a Bama fan in these big SEC games is like Bill Murray's Groundhog Day.

I never once felt we would pull off the win. I've seen this game before ... over and over and over.

I do not personally love the fact that UA is 2-6 in the SEC and now officially in the lower tier of schools. Execution is a product of preparation. I can not accept being unprepared and outcoached.

Re: OK - Post game thoughts thread. Let's not have 50 new ones...

Also, I love the way JPW plays. We've got a good one there. The OL....not so good. Talent at the skill positions means nothing if the OL can't block.

I'm torn on the coaching situation. Of course I'm unhappy, but I think Shula deserves another year to correct/straighten the ship....IF he makes staff changes. I think he can bring good players in and with the right assistants to help him can be successful. At the moment, he seems to be in over his head.

Shula redeemed

I don't know if this should be posted on the game thread or not, but I want to talk more about Shula in this thread, than the game overall so I'll start a new thread. All year I've complained about Shulas conservative play calling. All year I've said that a more aggressive coach could've won some of these games for us...after tonight...I'm not so sure. Shula did a lot of the things tonight that we've been begging him to do all year. We went for two, we went for it on fourth down, he actually went away from Darby in the 4th quarter. We still couldn't get the job done. Maybe...just maybe...we really DON'T have the talent THIS YEAR. I think most of the playmakers on offense will be back next year. I was impressed with how Shula coached this team tonight. Yes, I'm as depressed as anyone about the loss...but once again...this is about Shula, and I think as a playcaller he did a good job tonight. I think he proved that he deserves our patience...for at least another year...any thoughts?

Re: OK - Post game thoughts thread. Let's not have 50 new ones...

Not sure if this has been discussed but why was Capps starting this game? My frustration, at least one of them, is why does Capps continue starting?
Answer that question and you'll probably have identified the root cause for our loss. The right side played substantially better against LSU after Capps went out; I cannot understand why they put him back in today.

Re: OK - Post game thoughts thread. Let's not have 50 new ones...

IM gald Coach Shula will be back. The OL made the difference today. Shula can't play right tackle. Hopefully someone will develope into that position. It will make a world of difference.

:BigA:

He's definitely proven that he can do that...

Its kinda like getting kicked in the groin week after week after week. Except, this time I got kicked by a really hot girl.

That's genius.

Yah, God forbid we expect something better than mediocrity (at best).

2) Even if he was the best coach in the nation, execution takes place on the field.
Sure, it has nothing to do with coaching. If only we could recruit players who could execute...

Yeesh, head, meet sand....

Re: OK - Post game thoughts thread. Let's not have 50 new ones...

Assume that assistant coach changes make a big change for the better next year ... then the question becomes, why didn't our head coach make those changes earlier?
