Re: Could this be close to the truth?

Since this is an unsubstantiated thread, I will add something that I heard someone claim.

This person claimed to be in a luxury box next to the one that Mrs. Shula was in at the Iron Bowl. This person claimed that when the interception happened, Mrs. Shula had a total breakdown and cried uncontrollably for 20 minutes or so.

And why exactly did you find it necessary to share this with the world? Is it relevant to anything?

Doesn't it make you think that she knew he would be canned if he lost the last two games? Doest it hurt to try to extrapolate any minute scrap of info out to any conclusion?

Re: Could this be close to the truth?

I can't see Houston Nutt as a good candidate. This guy is nutty as a fruit cake. He was almost fired last year at Arkansas and saved his job by a stroke of luck. I believe he is in over his head and his true colors will eventually come out.

I can't agree with your claim of him being in over his head. He is the master of the trick play and has shown on more than a few occasions a playcalling ability that could be called pure genius. On top of that, his players show him tremendous respect and a willingness to give 125%. His teams are in the game until the final whistle blows, and that goes for every single game they play, regardless of the opponent. HN's Razorbacks play to win every game, and don't give up an inch of turf without a fight.
I think Houston Nutt can outcoach Steve Spurrier every day of the week, and twice on Sunday. Of course, that's just my opinion. And that's why I'd love to see Houston Nutt at the Capstone. Under him, the Tide would be more than awesome - they would again be FEARED.

Re: Could this be close to the truth?

I agree Shula is gone. A relative who played at Bama told me Shula was done. I generally would not spread a rumor but, considering his sources include a former All-American, and a relative of Dr. Portera, I'd say his info is credible. (When Gene Stallings was hired he spoke with him about a week before he was introduced and Stallings told him he was "Headed home".... When Franchione was hired he called me before it was announced and informed me they had met with Fran @ DFW and he would be announced shortly.) He does not believe Mal cares much for Shula. Mal wanted RW from the Carolina Panthers....

I remember a couple of Southern Cal games that he may have kept closer. I think he no doubt has his players stirred up and ready to play on game day. He is not a horrible coach by any standard, but I don't know that he is or is not the answer.

So, could it include a certain coach who won today in the SEC east?

Honestly, man, I've thought the talk of SOS to Bama was complete garbage, but I spoke with some folks tonight who have traditionally had good information and they believe it's going to happen. I have no idea what to think, but I'm at least now entertaining the possibility of the evil genius becoming the benevolent genius.

He would be someone BAMA would be interested in hiring. However, I do not know they believe he would come. Might also be an issue with his age. They do not want to be looking for another coach 4 years down the road.

Re: Could this be close to the truth?

I've probably said more than I should. Let's just say the situation's very fluid, but I do have hopes for a early resolution...

Re: Could this be close to the truth?

I agree with Earl and think that Spurrier is a long shot. Even though that appears to be the hottest rumor. But who else would replace Shula and give us the name recognition of an A lister that we all are craving.

It has to be someone with a proven track record in the college ranks. That leaves a very small list of candidates. Stoops, Saban,....? I can see us offering and getting Grobe or Johnson, but I'm really struggling trying to understand why Spurrier would come here or why Saban would leave the NFL. PLEASE let us get a great coach! This is killing me, plus finals and dead week are quickly appoaching:eek2:

* Hahaha, sorry Tide-HSV. Even being on a internet message board, I feel weird not calling people sir or Mr.;)

AS THE Tide is my second favorite team, behind UGA, am hoping it's not Spurrier or Nutt. Just be changing again in 4-5 years.

To me, Paul Johnson is the obvious best choice.
