What tackles on roster are as good as Andre? Mr. Smith will play that position on Sunday.

I doubt he will ever see a single play at LT in the NFL . AS is playing out of position . He might play RT in the NFL . JOMO .

He should be a great one but at this point , he's reached only the same level of success as a Dante Ellington .:frown:

Yeah , that BMI works better for anorexic cover girls .

I have to disagree, mildly. I think AS has more talent than DE. However, if he can't lose the weight, he won't see LT in the pros. He could play RT, even if he doesn't reach opimum playing weight. You are correct, DE basically ate his way right out of a career...

Maybe DE would've been a better fit in Knoxville . Fulmer's doughnut buddy .

You are correct in DE ate his way out of a career. But,there is no way AS is not better than DE at the same point in their careers.

In reality, he is "only" 6'4" - though he was billed as 6'7" in the wrestling world for obvious reasons. At his peak, he weighed 275 lbs. This from several sources...

Another incidence where the BMI is all wet is that it doesn't take account of skeletal changes that come with age. In my case, I have degenerative disk disease, which has caused me to lose three inches or so in height over a period of 15 years or so. I normally lift four days a week, and have since I was twelve years old. Although I've suffered some muscle mass loss, it's far less than most my age. Doesn't matter to the BMI, if you take actual height. Even though my case is extreme, there's some natural shrinkage with age even without DDD. The BMI doesn't take account of this factor, among several others. It's a very crude tool...
If all that you do is consult a weight chart, you are correct. Most doctors check BMI by measuring body fat content, then consulting a chart that translates their measurements. To do so, they might use the caliper fat pinch test in about 20 places around the body. There are a few other methods, but this is the most common, and easiest to do in a doctor's office.

Athlete or not, this is very accurate. And having been measured, and seen body types/looks and how they translate in this test, I would bet a very large amount of money that Andre would test out as obese...

It is plain to see that AS can play at 350,
but it was obvious that he faded late in games and late in the season.

I recall reading that the Shula staff wanted him at 330, but 348 was as close as he ever got.
I look for him to play at 330-340.

It amazes me to watch his reaction at the snap,
unless he totally misses the snap count I doubt he will ever be called for false start.
He is the last O-lineman to respond to the snap, on most every play,
but is so quick, at that size, he almost always gets his man, seldom is he out-quicked.

Yes he would/will be even better at 330.

But how can we get on a big guy about being big, and let a medium size rolly-polly go untouched?
AS can play for Saban at his current size,
but Prince Hall has much work to do to play for Saban,
weight loss,
more strength,
quicker.
AS doesn't have far to go ,
but PH has miles to go.

It would be interesting to see some before and after pictures of some of the players. I think there will be a surprising difference in how they look now compared to how they will look at the beginning of next season. I've been on a weight loss/conditioning plan for about 6 months. Overall I've lost 12 lbs of fat and gained 8 lbs of muscle for a net loss of only 4 lbs, but I've reduced my body fat from 16.7% to 12.3%. The difference in my appearance is pretty amazing.
Congratulations on your hard work paying off. What is your overall goal?

Also, Can you be ready to play at RT?

I think there is some confusion about BMI in this thread (or I am confused).

I think BMI is only a height-to-weight ratio, that doesn't take into account whether the weight is muscle mass or fat. BFP is Body Fat Percentage, which gives a percentage of fat to muscle mass (and organs/bone/etc).

FWIW, I think it takes a combination of both figures to tell where an athlete stands in terms of healthy weight.

You are correct - just checked it out. The caliper tests and other measures are far more accurate, and do produce real body fat ratios. From the info offered on the CDC.gov website, BMI is only meant as an indicator. To get a real measurement of body fat, one must see a professional (or buy calipers and have someone teach you how and where to measure yourself).

That doesn't change the discussion of AS' obesity, but it does prove Earle's point that BMI should not be used to determine obesity...

You do realize that these fights are staged, right?
Not sure which one you're talking about. Hulk Hogan is a classic entertainer, and staged or not, I wouldn't have wanted to make that dude mad at me in his prime, "Brother". Of course I would have simply shot him. I'm too old to fight.

I was actually referring to the bodybuilding freak beneath Hogan. He can show off a bunch of muscles, but they get in the way of each other when trying to use them anywhere but on a stage. This dude's steroids are on steroids. (Allegedly)

The BMI is very flawed. According to it Michael Jordan was "overweight" at the peak of his career. I'm also considered overweight by the BMI, but I often get teased by friends for being skinny. If you are fit and have much muscle mass at all it just doesn't work.

With that said, nobody can deny that Andre needs to drop a few pounds. Hopefully Saban can provide the motivation.
