Because if we keep playing hard and mentally smart for only 30 minutes out of 60....all that will come to an end. Somebody will catch us sleepwalking in the second half and come back and take momentum and we just might *gasp* lose because of it.

TR,

Just based on your posts in this thread, I do believe you would complain if someone gave you a million bucks all in $20 dollar bills.;)

Why are you worried about what might happen as opposed to enjoying what did happen? Terrible way to live life imo, but hey, it's your life.

The truth is our offense play in the second half has been awkward, at least against Penn State and Florida, because they aren't on the field very much at all. Our defense usually gives up a bunch of first downs in the third quarter, but they never break. Getting more 3 and outs and winning the TOP battle is definitely a priority for us.

And we've gotten way too many crucial turnovers to attribute to coincidence now. Our defense plays better when there is more at stake, there is no doubt about that. See Penn State, Arkansas, and Florida for examples. Once we can play every down like it's the only down, then we'll be a complete team.

TnR the problem isn't so much some of the points of your post as the timing and oh so serious tone. As someone else said... Relax Francis.

This just in... Florida's probably the 2nd best program in the nation and we just beat them so bad it's not funny. A lot of people have gone man to man with the exception of over/under coverage on #8.... how many games have we won in a row? Haven't checked lately but I'd guess most teams in the SEC play as much man as they do zone!

We played a ton of zone and were willing to give up yardage in this game because the game plan was clearly geared toward creating turnovers & preventing the big plays.... ergo creating big plays and preventing them! Mission Accomplished! Our offense wasn't exactly sharp in the 2nd half, but I like most fans believe they would have been if they had been needed.... but the defense was to busy knocking the Gator O silly. How about being happy over the fantastic push the D got for most of the game!

As for Julio it is frustrating for him to drop so many routine passes, I've got a count of about 7 on the year. A friend and I estimate each dropped pass is costing him between 100K & 250K by effecting his draft status.

Your other points.... uhhh I'm not sure what they were, but relax & switch to decaf... perhaps watch a bit more football as I don't think you're appreciating what the flow of the game is/was like.

Schlante,
Phillip

Ps (edit) if I were going to complain about something it would be the need to get a RCB that could play with consistncy. However the young frosh never got down on himself and continued to compete & I'm sure that's a big part of what Coach & Co see in him. Heck the PI in the endzone was as good a penalty as can be committed!

But that would weigh hundreds of pounds, how would he carry it?

And you know the IRS is going to come calling for their cut.

Not mention all the friends and relatives coming out of the woodwork to hang on your coattails.

No thanks.

You do realize you as a person have absolutely no effect on our team's performance. You are trying to do Saban's job. Not saying you don't have any good points, because they are all valid, but there is no sense stressing about something you have no power over. But there is sense in enjoying something you have no power over. Like a beatdown of the No.7-ranked Fighting Burtons...er Demps...er Brantley...er what are they called these days?

1) When we have a big lead at half we still sleepwalk. Sick of it..Play 60 MINUTES FULL THROTTLE!!! 7 points in the 2nd half and that was a pick 6. This type on mental play will get us beat this year by someone if it does not change.

2)Teams know how to shut our running game down now and only Hanks can get open against man-coverage.

3) Julio is good for at least 1 crucial drop every game. He's a 5-Star Athlete, a 5-Star blocker, and a 3-Star Receiver.

4) Defense is still getting shredded in the passing game and only getting bailed out by timely turnovers.

5) Ingram's Heisman hopes are done. 40 yrds??....over
I agree, but we are good.. real good and I honestly am not sure if anyone can beat us

Just relax, man. The "problems" you have stated are already being address by the staff, so what you are saying is nothing new. So again, relax with the convincing win. And until CNS and his staff proves they can't handle the problems of the team, I will give them the benefit of the doubt. Chill.

Guys,

I am very glad we won the game but you have to notice we have problems on defense and in keeping our focus for 60 minutes. I am looking at the big picture...i.e. National Championship. Tonight's game could have been much closer if not for the VERY timely turnovers and as flat as we played in the 2nd half FLA could have got back in the game. They didn't and that's great....but if we don't get our problems fixed then 1 or more teams will beat us. We are not invincible....now. If we can start playing complete games...we just might be. That's all I really want...complete 60 minute effort and maximum intensity.

I hate to be "that guy" but what you just posted reeks of football sense amd optimism. Although I could be wrong, I do not believe either belong in a thread like this.
:BigA:

Maybe youre right. I think it was the florida game last year where the lies between optimism and reality become blurry to me. I thought I was on the reality side of things this year again. But I guess I was wrong. I take it back.

I should probably just walk away from this one, but have a few thoughts.

How about the following...
1) We have the talent on both sides of the ball to absolutely blow out a top ten team in one half of football. Sure, an entire game with that mentality would get us beat, but I trust Saban and company to keep the fire going. We have shown an ability to put points on the board at a rate that I have not seen in many years at Bama. I think it may be a positive down the road when we have these mental breakdowns because they are learning opportunities. We have true freshmen out their playing toe to toe with the best the SEC has to offer, they will make mistakes at this point in their career. However, imagine how unbelievable these players will be later this year with the experience they are gaining today.

2) I just do not see this at all. When a game in on the line, we have seen several times Ingram/Richardson go into the wildcat and get it done. We technically did it at the end of the game tonight with Ingram picking up 2 first downs and then Lacy wrapping up the game. Sure when you are up by 3 TD's, you are willing to throw out the passing plays in order to kill some time off the clock. The point is every team in the nation (minus the barn because they are delusional) would kill to have the MI/TR duo.

3) "Child Please" would do, but seriously... Julio literally could sit on the sideline and I would be fine playing 10 on 9 the entire game. He opens up so much because of his threat as a RECEIVER. I think his "worth" is sometimes underrated because of his stats, but he is incredibly valuable to opening up our offense.

4) Our DB's absolutely need to continue getting better, but give them a little credit. They are bending, but not giving up big scores. The first three games, our pass rush has been non-existent and the DB's are going to pay for that. Tonight, the pass rush increased and I though several DB's picked up their game. This is not Lee and Jefferson throwing ducks around the field either... this is Mallett and Brantley, two very talented passers with several athletic receivers to throw to. "Bailed out on turnovers" seems like a ridiculous statement because turnovers are forced by solid D, being in the correct position, and making the play when the opportunity presents itself. Check out replays or Dre breaking on that INT, the coaching staff prepping the D for the jump pass, Barron's break on a pass in the 2nd half (did not get a foot inbounds), or Mosley INT for a TD. How were any of these getting bailed out? That was playmakers making plays.

5) Thank God. Lets get back to the University that wins Championships and screw those individuals awards. Now I was absolutely thrilled about Ingram's Heisman and would love to see future Bama players win in the future. But Ingram was NOT winning the Heisman this year, period. Missed two games, Heisman voters wanting to keep only one two-time winner, splitting carries with TR, and a TOUGH SEC schedule. These factors do not add up to a Heisman.

I am pretty critical about some of the shortcomings of Alabama also, but be realistic man. We just won TWO HUGE games back-to-back! Let's celebrate tonight and know that Saban will use any errors made tonight as coaching opportunities to make the team even better for next week!

ROLL TIDE ROLL!!!!

The second half offensively for the Tide wasn't exactly pretty, but it was in no way a failure either. A big lead with really bad field position makes a coach call conservative plays.

The second half had a strange, inevitable feel to it. There was never a point when it felt like Fla had a chance. So nah, not even I can come up with much to gripe about with a 25 point victory over the Gators. Seriously, Fla isn't Duke.
