I think one of the biggest problems we had on defense last year was the lenght of time the defensive players were on the field.

Our offense could not sustain long drives, or short ones for that matter. Too many 3 and out situations. Or we would run once for no gain, then throw two incomplete passes taking no time off of the clock.

I hope our offense holds on to the ball longer this year. That would really help our defense.

1) dedication to the run game by the people calling the plays. i.e. not passing a 20 yard out route on first down in your own territory against a great team. :rolleye2:

2) good blocking by nOObie receivers

3) proper ball handling by both the QB/Center and the RBs

if BAMA does these 3 things, they will have no problem cranking out first downs on ANY TEAM!!!

I agree that they spent a lot of time on the field but remember the 92 national championship team? They were on the field a lot too. And that was a good thing. We had no passing attack and teams allways jammed the line of scrimmage to stop our running game.
Our offense in 92 averaged around 28 points a game while last season's "O" scored around 25 pts a game. The 92 "D" scored a lot of the Td's that season also.
Here's the kicker. The 92 "D" allowed around 9 pts a game to last season's "D"'s 24 pts a game. There was a lot of pts scored in OT on both sides of the ball so I guess that equalizes out some though.
Bottom line is that great defense wins championships and great teams do not make costly mistakes on offense like untimely turnovers and must also have a great kicking team.

Looking forward to the return of Bama football. Thank you lord! Finally!

Wasted,
A big difference is the 92 team had alot of depth where as last years team had little to subtitute with. There was a good reason as to why we were in so many games to only lose it in the final minutes. Fatigue.

Fatigue, 300 coaching changes in less than a year, a schedule that the New England Patriots would have trouble with not to mention injuries took it's toll last season. Let's just move on and don't blame any of the players from either side of the ball for last season's collapse.

And we were also not very effective with the Blitz. That makes life real tough on obvious passing downs for the secondary. And, yes, I agree with your statement!
