With Freeze there was lots of talk, but nothing proven.
Like a lot of guys Coaching Rehab may or may not be for them.
I've never been a big fan. Come to think of it I said the same thing about Kiffin.
I had to eat a few words about Kiffin's ability. He was a really good gameday coach.
We will see, what we will see...
So did I. I had become friends with his HS guidance counselor, so I got to hear it from his side. He couldn't really control his high-velocity throws after he tore his rotator cuff. Nevertheless, Dubose hated him so much, he feared that he'd never play again if he admitted what was wrong. I detested Dubose for many reasons, but this one was right up there...

I like the hire, and I hope Locksley lights it up this fall! I hope his popularity in the clubhouse and his recruiting prowess will more than make up for whatever perceived playcalling deficiencies he might (or might not) have. I personally will withhold any judgement until I see what he can do with our system and our level of talent.
One thing I wonder though...

If there’s any truth to this article, I wonder how well the coaching staff will gel. Coach Saban is used to getting his way, and this makes it seem as though the conference blocked the hire of Freeze. That means that Coach Saban is working with an OC that he doesn’t want, and an OC who constantly has to work knowing he was the 2nd choice for the job. That would have to be a strain on the relationship going both ways.
Hopefully this article is a bunch of bull. Otherwise it would be tough to develop staff chemistry with that as an extenuating circumstance.

That's what most don't understand. Yes, track record = not great. But, I think he has earned it and, in this case, I don't think the past is an indicator of future performance. Dabol's year this year was much better than his NFL OC numbers.
They were reporting that Special Teams coach from A&M a while ago and he just got announced. I get what you are saying but there is some precedence for this sort of gap.Just odd that it has been 2 days since the media reported that Locksley would be hired and still no word from Alabama.

If Saban hires him it means he's past a pre-requisite of hurdles for CNS to believe he's qualified. Heck, look what had to happen before Tua got put in.LOL! Coach rarely jumps the gun on things until he feels comfortable with it.
I don't want to come across as "anti Locksley" because I am glad he is an assistant with the Tide. He can recruit, and knows the DMV which has provided some major contributors to Bama the past couple of years, including the only 5 star so far for this class, the DE from nearby Bmore. Jon Allen, Hand, Terrel Lewis , Cyrus Jones, etc are from here. BUt the folks who are saying we should simply ignore his entire track record at Illinois, Md and New Mexico really surprise me. Our past OC's had pretty good resumes with good offenses, when they arrived at Bama. As I've stated before, it doesn't take much to impress the football fans at the U of Md ( just a few miles away from me). Every season ticket holder I knew was glad Locks didn't get the Head Coach job , permanently, when Edsal was fired. They all wanted to keep Locks in an assistant role, due to his recruiting, but none wanted him to stay as OC. I confess these folks watched him much more closely than I did at the U of Md, but it was unanimous that he was not a good OC.
Now...its very possible that any half decent OC can get us back to the Playoffs and further, perhaps Locks has learned some things at Bama. Even more possible, Coach Saban knows vastly more than I. But he would not be my first choice.

Really like how Freeze runs offense, but also concerned about the way he recruits and the stench he left at Ole Miss. The escort stuff ain't wonderful, but I am less judgemental regarding that, as he has lost his position and will doubtful be so stupid again. Really wouldn't want him stretching the recruiting rules and getting our program in trouble with the NCAA. Not an easy situation..you'd think Bama would have sharp young OC's lining up for the job. Looks like each of our candidates have some holes in their resumes.

Could not disagree more. Save for Kiffin had Mac, Nuss, and Daboll been offensive world beaters? ABSOLUTELY NOT! You had to Google all 3 for their resumes. All 3 won titles too.
