Re: Will there be trouble for USC?

Charles Robinson, of Yahoo Sports (the guy who broke the Bush story), said if the Bush family doesn't cooperate the story may very well go away similiar to the Maurice Clarett situation at OSU (his own words). The NCAA has no subpeona power so they can't force the family to provide evidence.

Re: Will there be trouble for USC?

Seems to me that the nazi's might be forced to do something because if they don't, a huge loophole would be opened up for future violations by every program in the country. Players or their families could be showered with illegal benefits under the guise that payback would come from the player's future earnings. Even more, it could be done for every player on the roster. After all, who is the ncaa to determine whether or not a player might have a future in pro football. Heck, future earnings wouldn't even have to be restricted to pro football. Future earnings could be broadly applied to any profession. After all, we're just talking about ethe repayment of an (wink, wink) alleged debt.

Of course, the nazi's will probably just do a sham investigation and declare that there was insufficient evidence to punish USC, but that there will be provisions made to punish any future violations. Translation........"No way we're going to drop the hammer on USC, but nobody in the SEC (cept tutorsee) had better try to pull any shait like this." :D

Re: Uh oh..looks like Reggie Bush may be in trouble

It was just announced here locally in L.A. that the agent that Reggie Bush had that got his folks that house in San Diego, is blowing the whistle on the whole deal. Apparently Reggie's folks didn't have to pay any rent on the $800,000.00 home that the agent furnished for 3 years. Reggie screwed up by signing to another agent after the Rose Bowl. The original agent is needless to say, P.O.ed with a capital P.O.
If these allegations are true, and of course Reggie knew about it, then USC could stand to forfeit all games that Reggie played in. Hopefully, they'll snatch his Heisman Trophy as well. All my neighborhood friends are real nervous about this. I'm trying to be gracious but as soon as I come home and close the door, I burst out laughing.............

This is becoming...

very interesting, indeed. It'll be very interesting to see if the NCAA enforces the forfeiture rule (which is supposed to have no wiggle-room). I must say that, perusing this thread, there seems to be a lot of some folks trying to place words in others' mouths. I think the majority opinion is very clear - most want the same penalties to be assessed for similar offenses. I don't think any "Schadenfreude" is involved at all. Everyone just want the level playing field. If Bush were ineligible, then those wins need to disappear just like one year of ours did...

The NFL getting involved seems to have flushed the buzzards from their roost, with major finger pointing soon to follow.I predict that whatever happens from this point, will hinge on whether the media decides to martyr Bush, or persecute him, which, in turn, depends on how co-operative Reggie decides to be. ;)

There will be no justice in the world unless the ncaa hits usc and hits them hard. I know that is vengeful but I can't stand to see us get hit as hard as we did and then see teams like usc skate when it is so obvious there is some funny business going on. I don't care how good of a recruiter Pete Carroll is, no one recruits like usc has the past 4 years without some blatant violations.

Has anyone seen this..............''There have been rumors for weeks that Bush's family received $1 million from a San Diego Indian casino, which was immediately denied by Team Bush. Last week, the issue of Michaels' owning the Spring Valley house was revealed by the Miami Herald with the implication that the $750,000 house was a gift.''

.Saw this on MSN.com.

I will buy into all of the "conspiracy" theories about the NCAA if they fail to act. It is becoming very clear that Bush was openly involved and accepted many "gifts" for his family. At this point, USC has to be held accountable. There is way too much here for them to claim that they were completely ignorant, and if they were completely ignorant, their AD should be fired for incompetence...

This agent should be imprisoned. I know that there are no laws against it, but the agent is more responsible than even Bush for this stuff. USC gets flushed down the toilet, Bush gets his name smeared (as he should) and this corrupt human being is seen as a hero for "telling the truth"? Remember, he has an axe to gring and has admitted to being corrupt (for doing this to begin with). He is scum...

Is there new information that suggests that the family moved into the house before last spring? I have not seen it. Everything that I have seen suggests gifts and housing from this agent starting in 2005. Does it go back even further?

According to this TideSports article, Bush Family on the take, its been going on for a year and a half, including $100,000 in "loans."

NYBamafan, I'm going to take exception to your incessant name-calling of Michaels. What laws has he broken? He isn't associated with the NZAA, so he didn't break any rules. Bush, his family, and USC did that. Potential sports agents aren't governed by NCAA rules. Its apparent that he had some sort of agreement with Bush and his family and Bush broke it by signing with another agency. He's just trying to recover losses from the breaking of their verbal contract. That's not extortion. That's due process.

"Reggie did not have relations with that man"

Long Read

Kiss that Heisman goodbye. That's for sure. People had been wondering why Reggie's mom didn't provide those canceled checks for renting the $757,000 house. Lo and behold, shocking news broke today. Despite desperate USC attempts to show that Reggie's mom, a security guard, could and did afford living in the luxurious San Diego home, it has come out today through Yahoo! Sports that Reggie owes $54,000 for rent and another $250,000 for other gifts. Bush continues to deny all wrong doing, saying, "I know for a fact that everything is fine and this is all blown out of proportion."

The biggest part of this story, however, is that the lawyer of agent Michael Michaels alleges that Michaels became involved with the Bush family after LaMar Griffin and Lloyd Lake sought to establish New Era Sports & Entertainment – with Reggie Bush as a future client – in November 2004, prior to the Trojans winning that season's national championship. If true it would be probable that the NCAA strips USC of its only national championship since 1978. If that happens Auburn, Oklahoma, or no team could be named the 2004 champion.

Has there ever been precedent on something like this? Looks like Pete Carroll & USC are really going to get dragged through the mud.....deserving or not.
I believe the 1984 Florida Gators were stripped of their SEC title and the SEC was going to not have a champion that year. I am not certain but I think that decision was overturned after the NCAA finished running a hot poker up the Gator's behind.

First, I made a few comments. Second, he knew the rules and put Bush in a place to break them. Why do you think he did that? For leverage. He wanted the payday that would come from being Bush's agent and threw money at him knowing it was a violation of rules and could ruin Bush's reputation (as well as USC's). He then attempted to blackmail Bush into signing with him.

If you don't think that is wrong, you need to take a course on ethics. Some of the things that he did (blackmail) could certainly be criminal.

Bush and his family are to blame, but this guy is absolute scum...

NYBF,

Where do you see any attempt at blackmail? All I see is a group of shady people, consumed by greed, trying to capitalize on a young man's athletic abilities, with the young man a willing accomplice until he found a better deal. The guy left holding the bag found out that there really is "no honor among thieves" the hard way. Then he got a lawyer and is trying to recoup his loss through legal means. Blackmailers don't operate through attorneys and lawsuits.

"Criminal"...

is laughable in this case. It appears on the surface that they had a deal. IF it's "shady," then it's only because of NCAA regs, which have no force of law. Any "scum" involved falls equally on both sides...
